Re: Really wanky behaviour....

I know those feels, OP. Venues tried to do us like that a lot when we first started playing shows. After about a year of playing, and getting a nice local following, we started seeing some pay outs....

Re: What's the best things about your playing?

I'd say that I play the song on the drums, I don't play the drums during the song.

Re: THE DRUM MODIFICATION THREAD.

Anyone have any experience applying a wood veneer to drums? I bought a Percussion Plus kit at a yardsale a while back for $40, and I was gonna stain them, but I don't feel like putting in that much...

Re: The 20" shallower bass drum, not as easy to find as I thought

I know for a fact the new Gretsch Catalina Maples have a 20x16 kick, I was looking hard at those before I finally bought my Stage Customs. I've always liked the punch of a 20" kick.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Yep, sure are. And thanks, I'd been eying them for weeks when I was looking for a new kit, but was apprehensive since I'd always equated Yamaha drums with black gospel music. Did some research,...

Re: If you had to choose between these entry levels

For sure on that. I bought a sound percussion kit at a yard sale for $40 a few months ago. Had it rewrapped, cleaned the hardware, and swapped heads, and it's a perfectly capable kit for...

Re: My new drums.

Good looking kit. I'd heard a while back that Ayotte made Taye drums, but idk if that was true or not. Could be a DW/Pacific type thing.

Re: 20x14 Bass drum for hardcore playing - my point!

Scared to try new things maybe. They see/hear something they like, and they automatically think that's the exact thing they need. I'm still a little bit apprehensive myself about some smaller sizes....

Re: 2014 STAGE CUSTOM review ☞

It's more of a plasticy feeling rubber, but yes, they are on every lug, all the badges, the kick drum spurs, floor tom mounts, kick drum claws, etc.

I just got mine on Monday, and I absolutely...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Gah, I know, but it just looks tacky sometimes to see moongel or electrical tape on drums. I guess $7 is a lot better than $100. I'll throw them on there one day, though.

BTW, finally got a...

Re: Stupid Newbie Tricks

Had a noob moment earlier this evening, and I've been playing for 16 years......

Just got a new kit on monday, finally had a chance to set it up in one of our extra rooms that has been a catch all...

Re: DW Collectors for Djent

Matt Halpern is actually a Mapex player, so those Saturns would be bang on, IMO.

Re: Session work gear must haves?

These days, it honestly probably doesn't matter what your kit sounds like when you record, cause they are replacing your sounds with samples once they edit anyways. If they like the sound of your...

Re: Yamaha Drums

I was so pumped at the sound I was getting from the kick tonight. I still have all the stock heads on them, but I just threw a small blanket in it and it sounded pretty awesome. I might go with a...

Re: Yamaha Drums

The only difference I can tell from the 13 and 14 models are the badges are different. Do you know of any hardware differences? Mine are the 2014s. Literally the only thing I don't like about them...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Just bought a new Stage Custom Birch kit yesterday, pretty happy with it so far.
I'll get a chance to get new heads on it next week some time, but the stock heads are sufficient for me in the...

Re: Stage Custom Birch or Catalina Maple?

Thanks for all the input and advice. I decided to go ahead and get the stage customs, only really had time to tune them for a few minutes, but I already can tell they're gonna sound awesome once I...

Re: Stage Custom Birch or Catalina Maple?

Yeah, it is true that the right kind of heads and tweaking the tuning can make almost any kit sound the way you want, but they don't make drums in different kinds of wood and different sizes for no...

Re: Need help to identify this Export

My first kit was a 95 export kit, and I loved that kit. It really does come down to putting some good heads on it and spending some time tuning them. They sound perfectly fine with a little TLC...

Re: Stage Custom Birch or Catalina Maple?

Eh, I don't really have a need for a pro level kit anymore. My days of being in a serious band trying to "make it" have been over for a couple years, so I really only play about once a week with...

Re: Stage Custom Birch or Catalina Maple?

There's nothing I don't like about the PPs, they have been awesome drums for me since 08, I just wanna try something different. I'm looking for more punch, and the 20x22 kick was just a little too...

Stage Custom Birch or Catalina Maple?

So, in the market for a new kit again, and I'm wanting a different sound than what I had with my last kit (Pork Pie Little Squealer kit), so I've decided on 2 different kits. The Yamaha Stage Custom...

Re: Using a Metronome/Click on stage

I used to use an ipod with earbuds. I made a click for each song we played, and I memorized where the next track button was, so I would be able to change the track with the ipod in my pocket. There...
