Hey folks. Havent posted here in a while but I just reckoned you'd be able to help me with this question that's been nibbling at my brain for the past couple days :)

What I want to know is the...

Re: HITTING CYMBALS FROM THE UNDERSIDE

I'm not hatin on nothing boss, underhit gets the job done, but there's this actual word that people use and it's so on the tip of my tongue it's ridiculous. Gaah whatever. Underhit away.

Re: Learning to play piano soon

Honestly, if I had to choose my "main" instrument, it would be the piano. As far as studying harmony and theory goes, the piano is pretty much the be-all-end-all of everything. Chords, interval...

Re: HITTING CYMBALS FROM THE UNDERSIDE

I swear to God, there is an actual word in general use for "underhit" that sounds a whole lot better, but for the life of me I can't remember it. Anyway, the moeller stroke is pretty much the secret...

Re: I wanna learn bebop

Thanks folks, I'm going to look into those books, and I also listened to some of that Free Range Rat album, it's pretty choice, huh?

I've been listening to a load of Max Roach stuff lately ("We...

Re: All the great drummers played for....

I'm weird, I guess.

I honestly am so busy lately that I seldom actually practice behind a kit, most of my practice concerns me figuring out exercises on the bus and then patting them out on my...

I wanna learn bebop

Alright, up until this point, my specialty has really been the sort of choppy, funky, jojo mayer/johnny rabb/squarepusher style breakbeats, right? That's all delightful, and it works well in the...

Re: The ''Right'' Way To Set Up Your Kit

Well honestly, I don't have my "perfect" drum kit right now (I have a cocktail setup) but my ideal set is as follows.

On the left side of the drummer are two pair of hihats, both with standard...

Re: Small kit

Yeah, I'm actually in the process of building my self a jungle-style kit, it's gonna have a kick, a snare, and a hihat, and that's essentially it. I'm also going to have a cajon to sit on and play,...

Re: What annoys you on peoples drum sets?

Personally, I hate pingy rides, drum sets with more than one crash, and toms with coated heads. The snare is good enough for me, thank you/

Re: Bill Bruford

No one can say they've really heard Bruford until they listen to his jazz stuff, earthworks, all heaven broke loose, etc. Honestly, some of the greatest cymbal work, ever. He's so vastly underrated,...

Re: Derrick Pope: Moeller - One Handed Roll - Heel Toe - DrumSet

Derrick, as a new drummer, these videos are possibly some of the greatest things I've found on the internet, they just completely demystify all of these percussion "secrets" that people have been...
