Re: Poll: do you double bass?

#6 for me. I've been working on it for quite a few yr.and still nowhere close to where I want to be. I guess I'm slow and old. But I'll keep working on it.

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

1. How many bands are you in? One and a half. I'm in a 60's/70's classic rock band that has yet to play a gig. We've been looking for the right guitarist for about 6 months. We may have the right guy...

Re: Matched Grip Question

Mine is B. I've been working on finger tip usage lately though. So that may be influencing that. I've been playing matched grip over 40 yr. I think that you'll go through stages as you grow...

Re: 1987 Yamaha Tour Custom

They're not RC's but real close IMO. These drums are birch inside and outside with Philippine mahogany for the middle plys. I think Yamaha only had 3 lines back then. RC, Tour, and Stage

Re: Post your Zoom Q3 recordings :)

Lately I've been micing my kit and going from the mixer to the line in on the Q3. Here are a couple that were Q3 only.
Fooling around was me just jammin' when I 1st got my Q3. There are lots of...

Re: 1987 Yamaha Tour Custom

Those are real good drums if they're in good shape. I still have some from 88" but they're power sizes. I used coated ambassadors over clear ambassadors the most on those drums. They came with...

Re: Double bass practice tools

I would say any pad should work. Wood floors are going to transfer noise rather well. My friend lived in an upstairs apartment. He bought an E-kit to practice there. I could hear his pedals 2 floors...

Re: Mid/high level kits.

I assume you're talking about the performers. I rank those pretty high. They are lower in price than the maple, but I like them better. I don't own any. I do have high end birch yammies though.

Re: Solid and tight drumming

That was nice, good, solid, and smooth playing. I could handle it if the cyms. were a little louder in the mix. I could hear them, I just think they could be boosted a bit. Good job.

Re: Looking for solid value kit on a $1500-$1700 budget.

I'm with Bo on this one. You can make mid-level drums sound good, with the right new heads, and tuning. Cyms are what they are. So get some good ones.

Re: What's On Your Shopping List?

I need to buy a real X-hat. The one I've been using for about 10yr. is one that I made myself. I 'm thinking about getting a a 70's top new beat. I've got two vintage bottoms. The top that I use is...

Re: I've learned so much here.

If I can't say anything possitive, then I don't post anything. I will post something that might sound neg. if I think it can really help, but usually I don't have sound advice.

I've learned so much here.

This and one other forum that I participate in, are such a blessing. I've learned a lot from everyone here. I've recently learned how to play Dbl. and triple stroke rolls. Now I know that might...

Re: Doubles with Cross Stick

I struggle with this too! I saw Ben on, My Cym.Com play some triples a couple of times, and couldn't hardly believe it. I can't play 2 very fast. I guess we just need to work on it more. I don't have...

Re: Found some ancient recordings!

ah the good old days. I had a Krut 18'' in the 70's I think it sounded pretty good. If I heard it now, I might not think so though. I'm so grateful for my mother's patience. I was self taught. The...

Re: How do you save up for gear purchases?

I try to put 5 or 10 dollars aside each week. I try to buy cheap kits to fix up and sell sometimes too.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Wow, that's a nice kit. I'm jealous. I've heard of quite a few people having 9000's and will not turn loose of them. Congratulations.

Oh I beg to differ. I love birch. I own high end yammies. I really like performers too.

I don't know what to do with a music stand, but Roc-N-Soc is a great throne.

Re: The matching snare

I had a matching snare with my 88 tour custom kit. I never liked it. I used my Rogers Dyna. all the time. So I sold the Yammy in the 90's. I regret it. I think I'd really like it today.

Re: What full albums do you like to drum along to?

Boston's debut album is one. There a several Foghat albums that I play most all the songs on. I have a 90 Min. tape that I play along with, that's all Foghat. I use to play them all the time. Not so...

Re: Ongoing hi hat problem

Pearl's low end stuff might not be so hot. I know their high end stuff is great.

Re: Not denting heads

As a player of 40 + yr. My denting went away as I became a better drummer. I guess my technique improved as I got older. I never dent them anymore. I do remember in the 80's I was denting my heads...
