Re: Porcupine Tree
The EPs Futile and Nil Recurring are probably my favorite parts of their discography, definitely worth a look

Re: Worst bass drum sound ever?
It certainly went against the grain of most clicky plastic modern day bass drum samples. Kinda interesting just because it felt like one of those samples you'd hear on a dance track. When people...

Re: Book for Beginner Students
I don't think I'd use syncopation for a beginner, good book though. I'll check out the other ones but. Any other suggestions?

Book for Beginner Students
Heya fellas and gals and other critters

Re: House Drumset - frustrating show
Played a battle of the bands and a house kit tonight. The way it was positioned was terrible, my ride was too far out, and the stool couldn't even go up, was stuck at the lowest setting. Meant I was...

Re: fastest non-triggered double bass
Pretty sure he uses triggers on most of his stuff
Dunno, Aquiles Priester doesn't use triggers. But then again his stuff doesn't call for super fast double bass. Martin Lopez formerly of Opeth is...

Re: Dream Theater's new drummer
Why do people think that Danny Carey would even possibly consider Dream Theater?
I can't imagine anyone in Tool leaving Tool. They have a very cult status, more so than Dream Theater

Re: Nathan "Joey Jordison" (Slipknot)
Wait he influenced ALL us metal drummers? That's new
I feel like the Slipknot/Joey Jordison fan club is trying to spread themselves around. Just like they did for that stupid best drummer of the...

Re: Dream Theater's new drummer is...
Aquiles Priester has a style I quite like, very quick and powerful. A bit Portnoy-esque but I still think he fits the bill well, at least he did when he played with Angra. I do think it is unlikely...

Re: Dead sounding drum sets. Good? Bad?
To be honest I think Remo's muffling rings are quite beneficial for someone who needs a quick sound or is struggling with overtones/tuning. Or just likes a warmer sound.
Nothing wrong with that....

Take it on the balance of probabilities mate. Not saying he is rolling in moola. None of the DT members seem to have had much financial trouble. Odds are Mike is fine.

Re: Portnoy out...
He had a pretty nice house (from what can be seen in his videos/DVDs). Ahh yes I'm sure he makes a good bit of income out of DVD sales too.
He'll be sitting on enough to make it through a few...

Re: Movie you must see...
Is it me or when he was transporting his drums on the trolley... I didn't see his hardware? Just the drums and cymbal back pack?

Re: Looking to buy new cymbal(s)
Go second hand, look around on Ebay/Craiglist. You can spend well under a thousand bucks for far better than semi-pro cymbals.
There are plenty of A Zildjian series cymbals on Ebay. Sabian AA and...

Re: Tom angles!!!!
What's the highest-end drum kit that's appeared on this thread? If memory serves me right someone had a DW kit with some pretty bad angles.
I wonder... that drum kit sitting in the grassy field...
