Re: 2B or not 2B?

I play with Pro-Mark 2B hickory wood tip. They fit my hands and I can play anything from a quiet lounge gig up to a rock concert. It's all in how you pull the sound out of the drums anyway. :D

Re: Lesson learned! Set up on a level surface

You can get four 4'x4' panels and create an 8'x8' riser for yourself. They ain't cheap but if you know someone with a sound/staging outfit maybe you can rent/borrow/barter for the use.

Here's me...

Re: Dillholes at Guitar Center Banging the Drums

Well in the GC where I used to go (San Diego) they removed all the kits and left the electronic kits up for people to play.

Re: Still having problems at jam sessions.

One thing to remember is this- You should strive to record yourself playing. Always! And the reason is that on nights where you think you're playing like crap, you're actually sounding better than...

Re: The ubiquity of smaller kits

I normally use a 6 piece kit (10 12 14 16 22 14 snare) but will break it down to 4pcs on a lot of gigs.

What I don't like is someone telling me what kind of kit to play. "Just bring a four piece,...

Re: Still having problems at jam sessions.

You're overthinking it. Don't do that! You can't say what you want to say in the space of 3-10 minutes so why even try? Just play what's necessary and leave it at that.

When someone hears what a...

Getting out of the casino-like atmosphere of Southern California. Nothing ever changes, you blink and 26 years passes. :D

It was something of the perfect storm; a producer friend of mine with...

Re: Should artists make a living out of their art?

If art is dead then why are so many young people going to universities pursuing music, fine arts, et. al? Art is hard. But those who weather the doubts cast upon them, the negative stereotypes, etc....

Re: My reply to a drummer who asked about becoming a studio player

Great replies all around. You have got to be an octopus to be a good studio player. Not in terms of "having eight limbs" but really in being able to "change color and texture to fit the...

Re: people that look like drummers

I look like a drummer but don't tell my mom, it'd break her heart. She thinks I play piano in a whorehouse.

Re: Doing a clinic on August 8 in Vista, CA

I'm gonna video it so it'll be documented. I have several tracks I'm going to play along to and give a breakdown of some of what I'm doing.

Re: Zero practice gig..............

Been there many times. Learn what they gave you and know it the best you can so that when you get to the gig you'll have an idea of how it's supposed to sound.

You'll probably make small mistakes...

Re: Rudiments: Limited tempo range?

Let me make it real easy for you.

Every rudiment occurs naturally between two limbs. If you have four limbs, then you spend all your time figuring out how the hell all these rudiments fit...

Re: Do you accept every gig you're offered or are you picky?

I usually square it on three things-

1. Is the music fun and good players?
2. Are the people cool to hang with?
3. Does it pay well?

Re: Making $ playing drums

If you get into music to make money you're going to be highly disappointed. It's not an easy gig, lots of pitfalls and flakes.... shit man even the "reputable" turn out to be complete jokes...

Re: How do you bring revenge to those who miss your concerts?

You never invite them again. Problem solved. When they do come out, make them pay like everyone else.
