The Commandments Of Rythmn & Blues Drumming by Zoro & Daniel Glass (Alfred)

Hello all,
I would just like to share some thoughts on this book.

The cd supplied with this book is a hopscotch of cunfusion. There does not appear to be any mention of the supplied cd contents...

Re: You, Your Mind, and Drumming

I agree with what you write a lot.
A professional drummer friend of mine once told me, "you play drums, you don't bang drums just for the sake of getting a tone out of them". And you are so right...

Re: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

I used to suffer from this some years ago and had to have surgery on my left hand. I have a phobia to needles of any sort so when I was informed I would need to have the right hand treated as well, I...

Re: Alcohol and playing

I really love it when another band member turns around to the drummer and says with full conviction, "your timing was out". I just sit there and laugh but if he keeps it up I politely advise him that...

Re: TOM TUNING

In reply to TheArchitect, I agree with you, as you suggest, if using the drum dial, remember that depending on the heads being used, you have to adjust the tuning of each head to the previous ones...

Re: TOM TUNING

When you say untouched I take it you mean as in new and unmodified. I don't know what the standard heads are on an Imperial Star but I would go for Remo Pinstripes all around including the bass drum....

Re: Does a group REALLY need a leader

It really is not an easy task, being a leader and often the job is demanding in the sense that decisions must be made good ones and duff ones.
However I do know where you are coming from, I too...

Re: Does a group REALLY need a leader

In the case of original material, it is vital that a leader is present. There is room here for debate and improvements, new ideas etc between the band members but in the event of a serious...

Re: Great links for drummers

Hi,

I came across this info/link whilst searching the net. I know quite a few people are into drumless tracks to practice with. I have not got any of the cd's mentioned so no reviews I'm afraid,...

Re: How to position your kit...

I think the placement of drums is a personal thing. Might look odd and uncomfortable to somebody else but if it works for you then great. For me personally, I like to play in an as perfect arch (D)...

Re: The Drummer-Bassist Relation

Yes sir, I agree with you when you say playing with a good bass player leads to a better creativity (at least from the point of playing drums)
I have played with many bands who book me as a dep...

Re: Does a group REALLY need a leader

I have played with many bands here in the UK. No I am not brilliant, just available. However I find it most disturbing when the role of leadership (when required (and often it can be required)), is...

Re: Are we leaving other musicians behind?

I know exactly what you are getting at when you say "The perfect drum part can really elevate a song beyond where it would have been without that part, that feel, that perfect groove that none of the...

Re: Are we leaving other musicians behind?

Thanks Deathmetalconga, yes I have to agree with you here.
When I take on a gig (mostly covers), I try to get a feel of the musicians I will be playing with. I have played with two kinds here....

Re: Are we leaving other musicians behind?

Thank you bobdadruma. It is a thin grey line between compensating and adding a feeling (which works) to just altering something (or not altering as the case maybe) just to make everyone happy on...

Re: Are we leaving other musicians behind?

Sometimes at a gig I feel like I am brain dead. I am expected to play "straight" but the minute you allow a different perspective, it seems to throw the rest of the band, so shut up, sit there and...

Re: TOM TUNING

One of the problems I often face when doing a live gig is that my toms almost never sound the same as they did at the previous gig. This is because of the layout of the hall, higher ceiling perhaps,...
