Re: Can you turn an "intermediate" kit into a "pro" kit?

Yes you can just throw some super sick stickers on the bass drum head.

Re: Is live music dead?

I live in Boise, Idaho. All of the good bands that I know get paid, and the ones aren't good usually end up with gigs on Tuesday afternoons.

Right now it seems like the majority of the music...

Re: Over exuberance - a time & a place?

I just dig that we have someone named "Keep it Simple" and "No Talent" talking about over exuberance.

Re: Going to jams and getting my ass musically kicked is a good thing.

I think this about sums this up.

Re: Poogie Bell

Is that just a champagne sparkle?

I know it's totally a matter of preference but I can't believe some people don't dig sparkle wraps.

Poogie Bell

I've passed his picture on my way to the forum (hah) a couple times this week.

Seriously, how sexy is that drum kit??

Re: Going to jams and getting my ass musically kicked is a good thing.

There's nothing better (and no worse feeling) than coming home from a jam that kick your ass. It can sometimes be demoralizing.

For me though, I just plain old don't know what I need to work on...

Re: Rock albums with modern production and a great vintage drum sound

+1 for Tame Impala. Those guys have a very great taste in vintage gear all around. It takes a while to dig the sound because of the effects that they use, but after a little listening, their...

Re: What's your story about how you started drumming?

I played piano for a few years (early grade school) and would throw tantrums trying to get out of practicing it.

6th grade rolled around and if you had experience on another instrument you could...

Re: end of guitar centre?

Typically there's a lul on some days where a guitar or accessories guy is covering the drum department. Drum guy has to go get lunch after all. They do their best.

And that's actually a law in my...

Re: Left handed cajon?

You just need to track down some left-handed snare wires.

Re: Guitar Center's used inventory

This happens a lot at my store. Drum guy heads to lunch and a Guitar guy covers his section, and then buys something in, and has no clue what he purchased.

You don't see it as much at the smaller...

Re: Acoustic vs electronic drums: are they catching up?

You hit an e-drum pad and the vibrations are picked up and sent through a computer, where it picks up some digital recording made a studio in like LA or something and then shoots that into a PA or...

Re: Being in an X band, playing shows with crappy Y bands

Instead of spending every gig miserable, why don't you put on your own shows?

Find a few bands, a date, and a venue and get something going. It's really not rocket surgery. In my experience, if I...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

If I could groove on bass like JPJ I'd never stop playing. I'd have a hard time finding time to eat.

Re: Acoustic vs electronic drums: are they catching up?

To me, they're completely different instruments. Equal in their own right, but they both seem to satisfy totally different needs.

Electronic drums are going to continuously get more versatile,...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

I mean in all honesty his voice was barely there live by about 1976 haha.

I'd much rather see them all in different directions. Robert Plant has been making some cool stuff, as has JPJ.

I'd...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

We have a winner.

Also I nominate Dave Grohl. Him and JPJ are already tight from Them Crooked Vultures.

Re: The "Jimi Hendrix of drums"

This is an interesting question though. I figured I'd think of some words to describe the man.

Virtuosic
Pallatable to the casual music listener
Very interested in personal style

Can somebody explain Tame Impala's "Elephant" ending drum fill?

Happens ~3:15 mark.

The actual mechanics of the solo don't seem overly difficult to me. Just a very Mitch Mitchell-esque fill in terms of style. It's more the timing of the whole thing.

You...

How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

I've been playing with a 24" Giant Beat on my set for the better part of a year now. I've had to make adjustments because simply put, the thing is like holding a wolf by the ears. If I get too...

Re: Which wrap for my new Ludwig Classic Maple?

I'm a sucker for that black sparkle look. Throw some Aquarian Modern Vintage heads on it and get a cool black/tan look. A little classy, a little evil looking, and not something that everyone has...
