I use ear plugs and big ear protectors on top of them aswell. I can still hear the drums and everything/everyone else fine, it is just a lot quieter and a lot more comfortable using both of them at...

I don't usually drop sticks when I'm practicing, but when I play in front of a crowd I put this stuff called Gorilla Snot on my sticks. Works a treat and I've never dropped a stick on stage.
