Re: Do you have a piece of equipment that you've used since day 1 and still use it regularly?

Not sure how to define "day 1"... I borrowed a few kits before getting my own gear. Still have all the original gear I bought myself.

Re: Green Monday?

This is actually the new band name. The whole band decided that they've gone way to soft and corporate, and re-named from just GreenDay to be GreenMonday so that the average yuppie in the city knows...

Re: Jazz comping exercises

Well, thanks for reminding me how bad I am at this stuff! What I wouldn't give(well anything but hard work and dedication) to have that much freedom of note placement to lackadaisically comp bass...

Re: Jazz comping exercises

As always, you're the one to defer to. I did try to speak to that, but wasn't very clear.

The paper/notation exercises help you get the ability to put the notes where you want them, the musical...

Re: Jazz comping exercises

I've always found that the best exercise is to put on some inspiring jazz and comp it.

What I'm finding both interesting and cool is that more and more, my comping choices are mirroring the...

Re: Maison Guidry (an unbelievable, amazing talent)

What this guy has is so much more than fills and chops. Anybody can sit around and practice fills and chops over and over until you can execute without thinking about it, but true musicians like...

Re: Maison Guidry (an unbelievable, amazing talent)

Probably watched about 3 but was really impressed by the first. Guy has really great feel to his playing. Micro-timing on point.

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

LOL dude. The mental gymnastics required to say that I'm the one harping on age are beyond hilarious. My entire point the entire time is that it has nothing to do with age and he's not some child...

Re: Maison Guidry (an unbelievable, amazing talent)

This guy has a really cool groove. Sits perfectly in the music, interesting but not detracting. I'll probably look for more of his work, not that I have to since you collect it all here... Just for...

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

What? That I'm going in circles with you?
As long as I see posts I'd like to respond to.
The simple fact you don't like my sentiments does not at all constitute trolling. Trust me, if I was...

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

Okay, we'll just pretend there's something. I just went back through the post and can't find what you're talking about. You did post another solo with an edit I think, and even called it...

Re: Technique for hitting only the top of hi hats fast?

Push/Pull is a go to on the hats for me as well, but I have a harder time making the notes un-accented with this method than when I use just finger control. At certain speeds or on longer runs, push...

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

Might just be a language thing, but I wasn't actually calling the drumming stupid, just the fact that I was being asked apparently to find examples of each one since nobody would be tell me what I'm...

Re: Not sure how to do this

You're not wrong.

Not long ago I did a mix and sent it to the guitar player for opinion. He wrote back that he couldn't hear the bass. That seemed weird to me because I could hear it fine on my...

Re: Not sure how to do this

That's what I was getting at in my post above. If you mix for that crappy set of computer speakers, and get it sounding good there, you'll have a better result than if you mix for only your...

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

Again, what does "play like this guy" mean? Do I have to find examples of only 26 year olds doing every stupid lick this guy did before you'll find it to be a meaningful comparison? Neither you nor...

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

Sorry, you're right. Shariq is a true prodigy, there's nobody in his "age range" that's even close to his staggering ability to hit drums better than anyone else alive at any age and he's already...

Re: Not sure how to do this

You want to find the most "flat" monitor speakers you can, you don't want them to sound good, you want them to be as close to 1:1 as you can. No sound enhancement what-so-ever.

Another great...

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

You're the one getting uppity about age being a factor, when it's just not, as I proved by showing you some great drummers in the genre that aren't even as old as the length of time Shariq has been...

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

Totally agree, buddy.

I totally honestly didn't see anything all that impressive in the videos when I compare against other drummers in that genre, which is why I was asking what was so inspiring...

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

I know, right? Actual musical examples of actual young drummers must be quite a shock to the system. I enjoyed watching all these 100 times more than those dry solo videos.

And none of them are...

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

What the hell does "same level" mean? Names and ages mean literally nothing. When someone stands out, they stand out. Age can get a kid noticed, but only has so many uses with the passage of time....

Re: Shariq Tucker (a young prodigy from the Bronx)

I just looked up his bio. In addition to the word "gospel" being mentioned, it also says he's been working on this; playing the drums since the age of 3. That's not a prodigy that's a ton of work...
