Re: Big Band drum thread.

I played in a high school and college jazz band but never got a chance to do a Big Band. One of these days I'd love to find one needing a drummer!

Re: Vintage stuff. Period.

Well since this thread is about vintage, I figured I'd drop some vintage photos. In my opinion, you can get more bang for your buck by buying vintage stuff. I just picked up a DW Collectors set,...

Re: My "new to me" DW Collectors

I think it will work out ok, once I play around with it some more. Ideally, I would rather a 9x12 to go with the 16 floor... Or a 14x14 to go with the 8x10 that I have... Although he doesn't play...

Re: My "new to me" DW Collectors

Thanks Superman! I replaced the tom heads today with coated Remo Emperors. I think I have found the sweet spot on the 10" tom.. Sounds great! Now I am playing around with the floor tom still to try...

Re: My "new to me" DW Collectors

Thanks Larry! Yea, what I meant by investment is like you said. I figured it was a good price and that if I decided to sell them I could at least break even if not make a few bucks.. wasn't going...

My "new to me" DW Collectors

Well, I purchased my first DW kit. I found it on Craigslist and got it for what I feel is a really good price, $900.00. The kit is in good to excellent condition with only a few minor scratches and...

Re: Trimmed down kits

I have a cartoon drawing on my fridge at home. I took it out of a Modern Drummer magazine about 15 years or so ago. It was broken into four squares and had drawings in each:

First snare drum: ...

I have that exact, identical snare drum!!! Mine is dated 4110 (Oct. 41).

This is the first time that I have seen the same year and wrap! Beautiful drum buddy!

Re: Club date or brooklyn?

+1 on Red Menace's suggestion. At the moment, I only have vintage kits. Sometime in the near future I would like to have a "throw down", more modern kit for gigging. I think for the money, a used...

Re: Drum Dial tuning

I picked one up about two months ago. So far I really like it. Like others have said, it is a nice tool to use, but trust your ear as well. I use it to get the head in the ball park and then use my...

Re: Chad Smith Snare or Acrolite

I own both the CS snare and a 1967 acro. Must say I love them both! I think that the Acro is far more versatile of a snare though. You did good on the price that you picked that Acro up for. Keep...

Re: Favorite Drummer?

Re: Vintage Ludwig marching drum

Check the interior of the shell for any date codes. The old pic you posted of a similar drum has a badge that looks to be from the early 40s. I have a 1941 Ludwig snare that has a badge similar to...
