Re: Practice away from kit

No way for me to get that. It's just me and the practice pad. Any other suggestions? Any ways I can develop my sense of rhythm, or coordination without the drumset?

Practice away from kit

So, I'm going for my 2nd term in uni, and one of my new year's resolution is to still make it a point to practice when I'm there. So, I've been thinking of ways I can practice without a drumset. I've...

Uni auditions next month - what to work on

Ok, so I've applied for the extra-curricular quota in the colleges I want to go to, and my auditions are next month.

I know I can't move up another level of drumming in just a month, but I do...

Re: What Books to use for Lessons?

I'd highly recommend Time Functioning Patterns. Has loads of bass/snare combos, that can be played over any hi hat/ride ostinato. You could spend a week doing the first few basic rhythms, then move...

Teacher dilemma

Hey

I've been playing for about 2 and a half years, completely self taught. I've read a lot around, getting DVDs, learning about rebound, unburying the beater etc etc, and have followed them to...

Re: Reviews/Comments-On Tommy Igoe's New DVD Great Hands For Life

Is this DVD for someone, who would like to completely rework on his hand technique?

Ludwig in Germany

Are they available in Germany? My friend's going for a trip there, so I might ask him to get a snare.

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Gavin, could you recommend a really trash china from the Zildjian line? Really like what you use during gigs.

Feel vs Time

Something that I've been wondering recently. I've been working on some Led Zep songs, and I came across the intro to Rock and Roll. Basically learned this through the ear, and I've got it pretty spot...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Hi Gavin,

I read that you have used Future Sounds and The New Breed. I've just purchased these books, and want to know how you went about using them.

I do a lot of influence of Future Sounds in...

Re: $2000 for a new kit, HELP!

A Pearl Reference? Can't go wrong with them, though I think they may be slightly over your budget.

As for getting a versatile kit, just make sure you get standard sizes, and you'll be good to go....

Re: Instructional DVDs & Books for Beginners/Intermediate

Depends on what you're looking for, and what you want to improve on.

If you're a complete beginner, but with reading skills, you can get Carmin Appice's Realistic Rock.

If you're an...

Re: Funk studies

I'd seriously recommend Future Sounds or Linear Time Playing. 'Cos they are more of a system, rather than just a collection of patterns.

Re: Funk studies

Definitely recommend Future Sounds. That's what I'm working on, and it helps develop the most important kind of coordination, dynamic coordination, and that is the most important thing when playing...

Re: The New Breed by Gary Chester - advice

Slightly confused about Systems 2-5. I like most people, have just one hi hat. So, for example, System 2, I play 16ths with my right on ride (instead of a 2nd hi hat), and a chick on the hi hat with...
