Re: Limb fractures/breaks and the affect on your playing

Think of it this way, you can still play. In 2008 I was involved in a bad accident. As a result my left leg was crushed. Multiple surgeries later and now handicapped in that leg, I can still play. ...

Re: Hot Rod Drums

Just found this thread and think your kit is pretty slick and looks to be well done. Sticking with a hot rod theme maybe look into creating a small vertical grill into the tom mounts? Just an idea....

Re: My 6 Year Old And Drums? / Drum Kit under $140?

Re: Trying to decide Snare

Go for a deeper drum shell. Something like 14 x 6 or more. This will give you a broader range of tuning. I play the same style and my go to snare is a Pearl sensitone brass 14 x 6.5. This is also in...

Re: I'm really confused !! any help would be truly appreciated!!!

Not sure about your budget, but this is what I'd do. Pick up the DW practice kit (pads). This is relatively quiet to play on at home. Then pick up a decent used set to play with your band (cost...

Re: Question about bass drum hardcase

Pick up a smaller sized bass drum case and you can always toss in a towel to take up the extra space. A hard floor tom case will not take into account the room for the spurs.

Re: Bass Drum Pillows or no pillows

Evans EMAD 2 batter with an Evans EQ pad is in my primary bass drum 16*20. I've got an old battered pillow that just touches both heads in my 16*22 bass and a small orthopedic pillow in my 16*16...

Re: What sizes of shells and cymbals for an all-around utility kit?

As for shell sizes 12" and 14" tom diameter as they're more versatile than a 16". For bass 20" is fine for most of us as they're plenty for most club venues and if you need more sound a mic will...

Re: Pearl Export v Vision

Older Pearl Export kits had mahogany and poplar shells, which were pretty good. I think that changed in the 90's though. My practice set is an Export bought new in the mid 80's and it is mahogany...

Re: 16" bass drum... Hints/Suggestions?

I took a 16* 16 floor tom and converted t to a bass while in college. This allowed me to fit into a number of tight bars/ clubs and as a bonus made a great jazz bass drum. I bought new bass drum...

Re: Rack tom to floor tom

Any opinions on an isolation mount? This appears to be an option for no drilling.

Rack tom to floor tom

I use a 5 piece kit but my lower 14* 12 tom is mounted. I'm wondering if the sound would suffer if I converted it to a floor tom? There is nothing wrong with it now, but my life would be a bit...

Re: Bass drum AND a floor tom?

I did this to a 16*16 floor tom back in the early 90's for small venues and jazz clubs. I still have it and love playing around with it. However, as previously stated it won't be too easy swapping it...
