Re: New Pearl Wood Fiberglass

At a grand, if they only make a limited run, in 50 years you might see a return if you found the right buyer. At $600 I'd consider them for the retro-ish vibe.

Weren't the originals luan?

I agree with what has been said. Even with the demonator pedal, $300 tops.

Re: Don't Stop Believin' Drum Cover

Thankfully the cover bands I played in never did any Journey songs.
I have mucho respect for Mr. Smith .. Frank Zappa saved me from the
corporate stuff.

Re: My SSC vintage copper sparkle

Came pretty close on this (exact) kit, but the Saturns won out in the end.

I...

Re: Gear DOES matter.

Well said GD. Mastering your instrument seems more important than having super high end gear. I say buy the best you can afford with emphasis on cymbals and learn to tune your kit properly.

Re: My experience with a Saturn IV kit

Wow. No way would I accept this as a new kit..demo or otherwise!!!
Mapex is pretty notorious for excellent quality control. Depending on the deal, I would tell the dealer to pound sand and ice this...

Re: identify ludwig kit (new one not vintage)

Not the Element series. These kits were sold under the Accent series name I believe.
They are indeed birch shells and sounded (from what I recall) pretty good.
The only thing they might share with...

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

Pearl has their own state of the art factory in China that produces these kits.
which should translate to better QC in my thinking.
I do believe that Pearl is making their profits from these...

I'm with you with the customizing. I love making things better than they were when I first acquired them.

How thick are these shells?

Re: Review: Ludwig Element Icon Birch 4-Piece Shell Kit

I have done this on an old Gretsch Catalina maple kit I had. Just as a precaution to repel moisture. This kit will (if it's as good as I have been hearing..and I trust it is) be used for gigs etc....
