Re: can anyone grade this excerpt

On the same...

Re: can anyone grade this excerpt

Thanks for that link, looking at it the only two examples with similar kick foot requirements are the Grade 6 and Grade8, the grade 6 excerpt being slightly easier and the grade 8 being harder....so,...

Re: Playing drums to music

I agree with all that is written below.

I rarely play without music now, normally just to get the patterns going etc so the sooner you can at least get simple beat going with a song the better.

Re: Question for Experienced Drummers

I am not an experienced drummer but have had some fun with fills and patterns.

My advice is, find some tracks you find interesting, don't just play along, study them and practice each pattern so...

Re: Bass drum use by Powell in Ressurection

Thanks, your right about using the second pedal, it is rubbish but was just for having a go at this song, it isn't a serious attempt, I am no Cozy Powell and my equipment is nothing like his, it was ...

Re: Bass drum use by Powell in Ressurection

Thanks for the advice, you are right, it's a poor kit and even the skins are so cheap and knackered, you don't really get any rebound so it is harder work, you should have seen the previous cymbals...

Re: Bass drum use by Powell in Ressurection

Yes, it is a double bass pattern, I spent a while on you tube watching, I attempted it with two single pedals but the sound and accuracey was rubbish, but it was to at least partially get the effect....

Re: Bass drum use by Powell in Ressurection

Is it so rubbish no-one will even pass comment?

I am not expecting any , wow, brilliant etc, but some positive criticism is how we all move forward.

I know it's rough and it is clear I can't...

Re: Learning to read music..?

I have spent 20 years as a purely classical musician involved with performing and accompanying etc. As a musician I have met many people who cannot read it very well and come up with all sorts of...

Re: Bass drum use by Powell in Ressurection

I decided it must be bass drum so I had a go doing the bass drum off beats. Then after watching lots of footage on you tube I could see he is actually playing 12ths by using two bass drums. (the...

Re: playing continual 8ths on a single bass

Yes, he is using the floor tom for 8ths through most of the song, in the chorus we have floor 8ths, snare 4ths and the foot repeats a two 4ths and four 8ths pattern. In a way I am glad I hit this...

Re: playing continual 8ths on a single bass

Thanks guys, I tried again tonight and it is more controlable but not yet consistent in my "new" position which doesn't feel uncomfortable, just different from what I am used to.

For the actual...

Re: playing continual 8ths on a single bass

Thanks, that's very encouraging, I find it more comfortable to sit quite far back but experimented tonight and I have far more precise control sitting forward. For this partcular song it is easier...

playing continual 8ths on a single bass

Hi,

I have been trying to work on continual 8ths on my single bass pedal, I realised this was a weakness when I was playing a song with two 4ths followed by four 8ths per bar in the chorus, the...

Re: Does Budgie use a double bass pedal in Spellbound

Did you have a go of Land's end? One of my mates was here on Sunday so I asked him if he wanted to hear the Tinderbox album, he sat and listened to me drum the whole album! Must have been really...

Re: Does Budgie use a double bass pedal in Spellbound

Thanks for the links, in the interview I found this plus a Tama double kick on the one kick drum. So what I could do was swivel around and put my right foot on the left pedal of the double bass...

Re: Does Budgie use a double bass pedal in Spellbound

I may consider using the double pedal but I will experiment at home to see if I can master it with a single pedal, just for my own challenge and devopment.

I am a massive Banshees fan, personally...

Re: Does Budgie use a double bass pedal in Spellbound

No, its definately bass on 1, 2, 3an 4an, I spent ages listening to the 12" where there are no vocals in the middle, although what you suggested does give a similar effective sound.

We are lucky...

Re: Does Budgie use a double bass pedal in Spelbound

Your right, he didn't use one, I have looked at some of the live videos too, his technique must be slightly better than mine......

I have tried heel toe but I can't get it to repeat the repeated 4...

Re: Does Budgie use a double bass pedal in Spelbound

No, it is hard to hear at first but the floor tom pretty much goes through the whole song, in the chorus he has the snare on quarter notes, floor tom on 8ths and the bass gives 2 quarters followed by...

Does Budgie use a double bass pedal in Spellbound

I have been playing spellbound with our band but the repeated 8th notes every half bar in the chorus is not working out very well when put with all the other bits together.

Today I took my spare...

Re: Drum Stool Height Affecting Footwork?

I personally find that the hieght is a comfort issue and with that comes easier playing, both for hihats/tom and bass.

I find it essential for Budgie and Rob Brian's drumming in happy house, the...

I have been listening to "ressurection" by brian May with Cozy Powell drumming.
