Re: Room advice

Hmmm...well one thing I noticed is the body of my snare really started to pop with the X, and I get slightly less overtones. I actually prefer a ringy snare provided it is tuned properly, but what I...

Re: Room advice

Thanks for the kind words!!

It's a 14x6.5 ten by six maple. The batter head is an ambassador X that I'm trying out. I have the reso head cranked fairly high and the batter is actually tuned...

Re: Room advice

Wow thanks Kyle! I started a project with a friend of mine - stay tuned for many more videos! They will all be originals with multiple video sources. Hint: you don't have to physically be in the...

Re: Room advice

Improved things down here quite a bit. Put together a little video to give you an idea of the sound I'm getting down here now.

Please excuse the sloppy drumming, this was fun though.

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

Thanks for the ideas - I tried spaced pair a while back and found a better sound with XY, however that was when the drums were cramped into the corner.

I will give it a shot today! By the time I...

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

Just somewhat finished up a 3 day project - got rid of the bright white paint! Decided to pain a charcoal grey color.

I plan on replacing the carpet with some wood for a better room sound, but...

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

For sure, I noticed that in your snippet - they sound great!

I pretty much hit record, and left the EQ and compression settings the way they were before with an alternate tuning, so I didn't...

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

OK, really rough rough take attached. Just trying to see how the kit sounds as a whole in this funk mix.

Room down here is really dead and dry, lots of drywall, drop ceiling, and its carpeted.

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

Nice sound dude - real nice!

After experimenting for about a week straight, few hours a day - here's the sound I've finally achieved and am 150% happy with. I really really liked your tuning, but...

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

Thanks! Since there's no lacquer and i applied tung oil, every so often I'm going to have to re apply the oil to keep the sheen, but overall it's a great finish. I got pretty lucky considering the...

Awesome - thanks again, looking forward to it. I'm actually working on a mix and I'll try to upload it here - rehearsal tonight, might not have much time until tomorrow.

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

Scratch that - I used my ears this time

It's amazing how much of a different it makes when you add in the overheads to a drum mix....they totally liven up the mix.

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

cdrums21 - I started messing around with alternate tunings again - I'm not sure if I'm tuning my 14 inch floor tom right - I just re-read your first initial comments - you said you tuned the batter...

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

Anyone care to share an audio snippet of their drums? I'm interested to hear a real drummer's drums after a careful tuning. Tuning has always been a weak spot, but I always seem to nail the snare...

I do - the living room. I have cathedral ceilings on the 1st floor of the house.

I may just pull a Dave Grohl and record in my garage!

The wife probably wouldn't like my drum set in the living...

Re: Room advice

Do you think removing the ceiling tile temporarily would be a good test to see what kind of reverb develops?

I have some pretty nice reverb plug ins - Lexicon, Waves, IR-L, etc. They work great...

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

I was able to cut back on the 12 inch resonance by tuning the batter to an F# and the reso to an F - the batter in this case tuned slightly higher than the reso.

I appreciate your comments, my...

Re: DW Collector's Series Tuning Woes

Another update

After pulling all of my hairs on my head out, I found that tuning the 12 inch 1 to 2 notes apart cut back on the resonance quite a bit. I'm very happy with the toms now.
