Re: Looking for new kit with vintage sound?

Club dates get my vote in that price range. If you want to do a bit better, look at C&C or George Way sets.

Re: New Guru "Tour" series kits - details here first :)

If I were going to buy a kit, this would be the one worth saving up for!

Re: George Way Drum Kits?

Since this (G Way) is a project of Ron Dunnett, I can't imagine him letting anything out of his stable that wasn't just awesome.

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I am a snare drummer, and I have made my own drums. I have given away drums and sold some that I have bought and revamped. They are tools, but I love my tools as long as they meet my needs. If I find...

Re: Snare under $200

I don't know of any wood snares under $200 new that I would recommend to anyone.

Re: Cleaning a Ludwig LM400

A soft cloth wipe down after use should be enough. The pitting problem is more of an issue with the plating process than in the external grime.

Re: AK Snare Drums?

The AK concert snares, copper, are played by some of the top orchestral players in the world. They sound fabulous, a touch of "woody" sound, the power of metal. The standard copper would be my first...

Re: AK Snare Drums?

I do not own one, but have heard them. They are wonderful drums, but you need to keep one thing in mind. Many are reproductions of older drums, so they will sound like the older drums that they are...

Re: Snare question: 8 vs 10 lug differences?

I think of the 8 lug vs 10 lug thing not in terms of better, but of sound required. Dunnetts aside, I have played some killer Acros. They fit a certain niche very well, as thousand of drummers can...

Re: WFL versus Ludwig blue and olive.

Bo shows sound reasoning. Old wood is not always better, and mahogany is not best for all playing. Many of todays drums have better quality control than the old days. Sets should be evaluated for what...

Re: Snare Drum Sweet Spot

I have never found the center near as full voiced as an off center sweet spot, at any tuning. The center sound too "thuddy" to me. To each his own.

Re: Snare question: 8 vs 10 lug differences?

Some of the best snares made have 8 lugs, such as those made by Ron Dunnett, which are clearly world class. Part of the reason for 8 is to remove extra dampening on the shell by removing weight. this...

Re: Rock snare under $200

In that price range, a pre-owned Ludwig classic maple is great if you are looking for wood. Stave shell wood is great for rock, but we are in a whole new price range. Used Ludwig Epic is another good...

Re: Supra > Acro

Each is special to me. And, each has its place. I still love acros, but both are killer drums.

Re: 13" vs 14" snare

13" just doesn't excite me, and I prefer 14" I would really like a 4"x15"!

Re: Snare for a $200 budget

As one reply said, You are going to get a lot of recommendations for Acrolites, supralites, and Supras. Well, he is right, and for good reason. There is an awful lot of experience on this forum, and...

Re: Anyone prefer standard depth?

For years, I just played 5" deep snares, and still love them. but I am playing a 6.5x14 that I made a lot, not because I like it better, but it better matches the type of music I am playing. I like...

Re: The Supra returns ;)

I listen to all kinds of metal snares, and there are many great sounding drums. Supras keep rising to the top of the heap, along with Acrolites.
