Re: Bass Drum miking without a hole dilemma

Thanks for all the help.

The problem is, the guy does all the mixing who is in my band and its his desk, so it is very hard to tell him otherwise that the bass drum would be better ported. The...

Bass Drum miking without a hole dilemma

Hey there,

My band member is adamant that he does not want a hole placed in the front kick head to allow for a rather large logo to be there, which in some ways I understand.

The main problem...

Can anyone figure out what Jimmy is doing on this solo from 1:38 onwards, I'm trying to figure it out but I just can't. It sounds really cool and I want to be able to see if I can play it.

It...

Re: notation programs/sites

It is useful to transcribe yourself, but to get it exactly right and also to do songs that are up to 10 mins in length can be very time consuming.

Re: Getting bored while playing songs ?

If your getting bored that means your not really enjoying what your playing.

No matter how simple the songs I might perform, if I am doing them live I am never bored because playing live is a...

Re: Gloves? Yey or Ney?

Gloves get a bad rep that they don't really deserve. Loads of pros use them - Tommy Lee, Tico Torres, Jason Bittner list goes on. They do help with grip, and if your playing a long show sometimes...

Re: Weird Kit Youtube Drummer

I like his playing, but I just don't get the kit at all.

I don't see the point of having his ride so high up where he is having to almost raise his arm past his head to play it.

Re: Mike Bordin

Not a big fan of his playing with Faith No More, but I liked the stuff he did with Ozzy on Black Rain.

Re: Tommy Lee

I think the 40" bass drum looks very stupid, it hides most of Tommy because it is so huge, and the fact that it is placed infront of a 22" makes it even more pointless.

I'd like to just see him on...

Re: Joey Jordison

I actually think the exact opposite about that song, it is very very simple.

When I heard it for the first time I was surprised how basic it sounded on the drums compared to some other Slipknot...

Re: Post Your Greatest Strength

My greatest strength is playing for the song first at all times, and only adding what is needed to make the whole thing come together, being as solid as I can and keeping good time.

Re: Double pedal/Two bass drums

Eric Singer who plays with Kiss and Alice Cooper uses 1 bd with Kiss (double pedal) and 2bd's with Alice. Most pro drummers can easily go between the two without any problems, some drummers say that...

Re: How get a good dry Crack out of your snare??

Crank the hell out of it on both sides and snare wire tension pretty high, be careful not to choke it though.

$150 dollars, does it sound like a good buy you think?

I don't know anything about Birch shells - are they similar to Maple? I like a real nice crack, this is a birch snare..

Does anyone have the Ian Paice snare here? What do you think of it if you have one?
