Re: What a catch (1980's)

Thanks Andy ;-)
While we're at it, here's a very different version of Stop, by Joe Bonamassa, that's pretty good too!

Re: What a catch (1980's)

No he didn't, the drummer's name here is Roland Kerridge.

I'm not that familiar with the rest of the CD, although I have it. I will listen to it, but there's other tracks with Gavin. The titles...

Re: What a catch (1980's)

The first time I heard him was in this song : Stop by Sam Brown

Real tasty drumming on a hit record from the 80's!

Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

Just to make it clearer, here is how 8th note triplets look in 6/8 ;-)

Re: Left foot clave, best pedal mounting?

I'm not really aware of the others, but I have used the LP mount for years, without any problem !

Re: 1975 - guess the drummer :)

Andy, thanks a lot, I really do appreciate your comments on me, as well as your attitude on the forum!

When I started being interested in drumming, I was about 13, and that was also when I first...

Re: 1975 - guess the drummer :)

Amazing that he was only 16...
Two days ago I was listening to a record from 1977 he played on. Jack Bruce's "How's Tricks".
I also remembered you like him very much, then I thought he could play...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

Yes it's ok with me if you want to see it this way.
But in my opinion, 6/8 is basically in two.
Then it could be useful to count the six eighth notes, but I never consider 6/8 as being in six...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

Color My World, by Chicago is clearly 6/8 (or 12/8, which is about the same)

"When a Man Loves a Woman" is a good example of a popular song in 12/8

I have seen "Because" by the Beatles listed...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

There's always more than one way of looking at things, and that's what make it interesting.

I also take common practice into account.

Like someone said, dancers count in 8, so why do we count...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

Although Norwegian Wood is seen written in 12/8, the way the Beatles played it is clearly 3/4

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

There's so much misconception in this thread...

3/4 and 6/8 have the same mathematical value.

In music they have their own character and characteristics.

Mathematically, anything written in...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

I would say just the opposite: 2/4 with a triplet feel is another way of writing 6/8 ;-)

Re: Do you call it a kick drum or bass drum?

I've never liked the term.It is limiting, I think. When playing jazz it certainly isn't a kick drum.

Re: Los Lobotomys. One band, so many great drummers :)

Vinnie's solo is insane on this one, it is from this CD (http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOS-LOBOTOMYS-SELF-TITLED-1989-S-T-JAPAN-CD-STEVE-LUKATHER-/121232448162?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item1c3a045aa2)

Re: App for repeating parts of songs?

The best app that I know to make loops is called Transcribe!
First it was made to help transcribe, and I've never seen anything else that makes it easier to figure out song structures.
Then to help...

Re: FAO John Riley's Art of Bop Drumming users

I've always assumed this mistake was left intentionally. This is improvised music, so mistakes occur, and I think they are part of the art form. Especially when playing an AABA form, it's easy to...

"It's part of the actual instructional video. Would be on the DVD as a download (or...

Re: similar drum beat- 3 songs- intentional?

I would say there probably was confusion between two songs in the article. Nubian Sundance is in 4, but Mysterious Traveller is in 7/4 (or alternates between 3/4 and 4/4).
I had never heard the two...
