Re: Is it just me?

I was going to say it's more of an volume problem from the guitarists and other band members if a drummer is being swallowed. As drummers we have a max volume level that doesn't get any louder even...

Re: Is it just me?

If someone wants a darker sound with cut why not go with HHX? I've never had a problem with my HHX cymbals matching the cut of my AAX cymbals and they offer a nice contrast to the AAX shattered glass...

Re: More creative drumming with a cape on?

I'll have to try this.

I never knew the untapped potential that a cape offers.

Re: More Creative on a Larger Kit

I have 14" and 16" floor toms and the 14" is too small for a 10" 12" 14" 16" setup. I'd rather it was a 15" floor tom for some more bass and depth to the sound. I couldn't be happer though with my...

Then we'll all be buried under the pay to play model of performing...

I wouldn't put it past local bars to start doing it.

Re: Potential drummer; have a maybe controversial question

Your story sounds a lot like mine 4 years ago when I was 19. It's funny that you mention rock band since that's what really spiked my interest and woke me up to trying out a real drum kit. I'd been...

Re: More Creative on a Larger Kit

I think it was already settled in the other thread that creativity is in your head not what you play on. A better thread to start would be "How do you use your kit creatively?".

Re: NFL Asks Musicians for Money to Play Super Bowl Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne

I find it quite amusing that an Artist performs for 15 mins during half time and the ball is only in play for an average 12 mins, yet they still want the artist to work for free and pay the players...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

I found it's nessesary for some fills to avoid crossing arms on the second tom, and my left hand always leads when I do falams. This is still a problem present on a small kit too.

EDIT: Are we...

Re: posture

Ergonomics are a huge factor in playing the drums, I've rearranged my kit so many times to get everything right. You never want to be reaching for anything or leaning to reach something, keep it all...

Re: What technique changed your drumming dramatically?

I totally forgot about that aspect of music, learning another instrument or multiple instruments will always help out your over all musical ability. My drumming helps my piano timing, my piano...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

I'd agree that reacting is creative since you're suddenly faced with a musical challenge/problem and you have to create something that works. So is creativity really just problem solving?

I think...

Re: NFL Asks Musicians for Money to Play Super Bowl Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne

Wow... that's a flat out insulting offer from the NFL. Just because an artist or group has made it big doesn't mean they should have to pay to play at a venue. If it's not acceptable at a local bar...

Re: Help with my technique and mental pulse

Play with a click, metronome, or drum machine and try16th's and other fills around the kit while you keep your kick going playing quarters on beat. This is what really got my sense of time...

Re: THE AMBIDEXTROUS THREAD

I'm finding that after having to strengthen and coordinate my left hand for blast beats it's become more useful around the kit. I used to never hit crashes with my left but now it's common place. I'm...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

Like I said earlier Jazz from my limited understanding is a big web of music, there's a general shape to the song and everyone is working towards that shape. But everyone weaves their part a bit...

Re: Annoying Sounds

I've never been annoyed when I hear a drum track that's outside what I can play, infact I welcome it. I want to hear something that I can't do and figure it out since it's a place I can improve. I...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

I agree as someone who's played both genres they're quite different as to where your freedom for creativity can be shown. Metal ties your kick down to the rhythmic pulse of the palm mutes on the...

Re: Does anyone actually like big finales?

I don't like them too much but some songs and performances really need something BIG to cap it all off.

I prefer a non typical ending that catches people a bit off guard.

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

Now we're getting somewhere!

If I had just a stripped out 4 piece kit with hats, a crash and ride, I'd probably be crashing my hats during fills where I would use a second crash or using the ride...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

Maybe you need to realize everyone isn't like you?

When I have an additional item I don't hit it for the sake of trying to use everything on my kit, I use it where exactly where I intend it to be...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

I'm not thinking about the gear I play I'm thinking about what the music requires me do to. If it calls for being more diverse with the number of sounds I need then so be it. I'd be compromising and...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

If you're going to have a debate/ discussion don't contradict yourself. First you say I'm thinking too much because I have too big of a kit, then you say I would have to think more on a smaller kit....

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

I know I could express what I wanted to on a cardboard box but we play drum kits not boxes.

I disagree, I find with more drums and cymbals I have exponentially more combinations I can do on my...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

I don't think the medium is part of creative potential since it's just that, potential. You have a limited mental capacity to be creative, it doesn't change magically with your number of drums or the...
