Re: Snare identification

Yes, indeed, looks like it. Thanks.
Strainer looks strange / different. Maybe some 'mix and match'?

Snare identification

Hi all. Hope this is the place to post this question.

Re: Playing Styles

I know you asked for a book with 'all styles' but wondered if you have Advanced Funk Studies by Rick Latham? I like(d) to play the funk as well and found this a great book.

Re: How did you guys progress?

The more I know the harder it gets I think. Now I hear the mistakes, sloppyness etc. that I was ignorant of when younger.
Also lately I am trying to sing while drumming. I find that difficult to...

Re: Terry Chambers

Yes, I like him too, he added a lot to the quite original XTC sound.
(And, finally, a reply after five years ;-)

Re: the practice pad

Singles, doubles, triples, quadruples, etc, paradiddles, flams, beats, parts, the works...
I want and should buy a bass-practice pad as well. It is on the wish list.

Cool image for the Friday

This – see image – is the image that inspired me to do this post.
Every time I see this between my records I think 'wow'!
Of course there must be and are a lot more.
So what is your idea of a...

Re: Something's off

The song is a tad too sugary and they sing and play it somewhat unsupple in my opinion.
(Hope this is correct English). But that is not the issue here I suppose.

The snare / rim / handclap-sound...

Re: Would you pay for a drum rehearsal room

Yes, I make use of it. Costs 3 euros an hour.
You can bring your snare, cymbals, pedal to have the right feel.
It it is also possible to rent a closet for your complete kit (which I do).
Then you...

Re: Living Colour - what else is out there

As I like them too, maybe try some Funkadelic and or Parliament if you haven't already.
And perhaps (being Dutch) Urban Dance Squad.

Re: My software for drummers: BPMinus

I thought: great! But then I saw it is only for windows...
As a lot of artists, designers, musicians etc. work with the mac, this is somewhat disappointing.
I use Transcribe for my guitar studies...

Re: Shipping Drums...And Keyboards

Maybe this helps: for international art transport I used a specialized art mover. The one I worked with (couple of years ago) is working in Asia and Europe, not in the USA so far as I...

Re: My new Allegra 4 piece

Looks like a great kit. Never heard of them though, maybe because I'am living in Europe...
Now I am very curious how they sound!
(Just did a fast tube search and I see that Erik Hargrove plays...

Re: Schlagwerk cajon - purchasing advice

Hi, thanks a million for your extensive thoughts on the matter.
I thought about a 2inone, maybe the Oak, because I liked the duality of the rather strong bass and the nice 'chick' of the snares. But...

Re: Schlagwerk cajon - purchasing advice

Did you found the right Schlagwerk cajon?
I was looking for one and have to decide on the exact type also. Maybe you could give an update. Thanks.

Re: Buddy Miles!

Yes a great drummer indeed. Very funky. Band of gypsies is super. And I like Them Changes as well. I am not familiar with his later work. I see that he played with Santana and Bootsy.

Fixation on drumming

A question for the friday:
When you go to a concert, do you keep your eyes and ears fixed on the drummer or can you see, hear and enjoy the whole ensemble?
Because I can be a bit obsessed sometimes…

I also play the (electric)guitar.

Re: Tama Superstar Hyperdrive advice

Totally agree.
Maybe buy one set of good sounding hi hats (or one great ride cymbal) plus a cheap crash to start with, and save up for the rest.

Re: What is the best snare drum for hard rock/funk?

I Just heard (but not played myself) the Tama SLP G Maple. It is 7 x 13".
Maybe an interesting snare to check. Sounds powerful / loud and funky.
