Re: Warning - Hidden dangers of drum building.

I never knew about toxic wood either, myself. I know I have a 3M respiratory. I use one of these when I do any real wood or paint work.

Re: So why two 16s?

I have 2. They are tuned dramatically differently. One tuned around normally then the other one is extremely low, just above wrinkle.

Re: Drums suck!

Ok, thank you. I thought I had posted this question in my "Drum Builders, Help Me" thread, but it was here.

Re: help making wood acrylic hybrid.

Maybe I am mis reading this. Are you talking about an inner wood shell with an acrylic shell wrapping it? I'm kinda lost.

Let's Talk Definitions

Ok, so my neighbor and I got into a friendly and kinda heated debate earlier today. The definition in question was musician. Simple enough, right. Well, I guess I was wrong. He brought up...

Re: Drum Builders, I have a question.

Sorry, I guess I forgot to ask my question. Is the vent placement arbitrary or is there some calculation for where it should go? Thanks for pointing out that I never actually asked anything.

Re: Drum Builders, I have a question.

Ok, I decided to go with 16x7. I have it tuned up and I am kinda surprised that I am not noticing a real difference between my 16x14 and this abomination to the drumming gods. However, there is no...

Re: Drums suck!

Sorry to get late to the show here. Very interesting read. Now for a stupid question, what would dictate the placement of the vent in the shell (how high or low)? Or is the placement of it just...

Re: Drum Builders, I have a question.

I do have a 16 that I can chop up. My current setup has 2 16 floor toms tuned way differently. This is a spare where one of the bearing edges was totally destroyed by the previous owner. I have...

Re: Drum Builders, I have a question.

I know they will sound different. I am just curious if there is a depth that will start to choke the drum if it is too shallow. I am working on getting a 14 to do the actual size.

Drum Builders, I have a question.

Ok, there is a drummer that has a 14"x6" tom. I love the way that it sounds. I am wanting to try this, but with a 16". Here is the question, will I just add 2 inches to the depth (making it 8") or...

Re: need some help with finishing my drums

When I removed my wraps, I just used a heat gun at the seams. Then I sanded the whole drum. That got the remaining residue off. Here is one after 4 coats of the stain I used. This was also with...

Re: need some help with finishing my drums

Go look at wood stains. They come in a huge variety. You can also get truly clear polyurethane to do your protection coat.

Re: I suck at power ballads.

I literally laughed. Stupid question, what decade were you born in? That could play a role. Being born in the 80's, I heard this all the time and they remind me of childhood things. My dad,...

Re: The Speed Obsession

As to my favorite "slow" drummer, Here it is. I am unsure of his name. He, throughout the entire album, plays a wide range. Mostly what people consider slow. He seems to know what the music...

So, I found this!

Is Ian Paices kit just cranked up on the tuning? Great series of videos if you haven't seen it.

Re: Angle Grinding Rims

To answer your question, yes. You will, at a minimum want to primer them. Clear coat won't really stick to bare metal. You will also want to really lay the paint and clear coat on thick for the...

Re: Grip problem?

Correct, I didn't have this problem with cheapo sticks. I will try using less pressure (after I heal up and see how that works. Thank you.
