Levon Helm

"Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer," says the note. "Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey. Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration...he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage."

Send your prayers.....

My thoughts are with him and his family. Levon should be proud of his body of work and hold those memories with him as they are with us.

I really love that man. What a great guy. I hope he isn't suffering.

Re: Levon Helm

Sad, but the man had a great life and left behind so much awesome music. Even my kids, who are very young, love to sing along with The Basement Tapes, one of my all time favorite albums. Through the music you can literally hear the fun they must have been having as they put those songs together. Awesome musician. Love Levon.

He's being kept " comfortable " from what I'm told.

Just read that he has passed. Levon along with his Canadian "Band" members were a big influence on me. He will be greatly missed.

I've been listening to his music intensely the past few days, what great groove, and soulful voice. He just seemed like a wonderful human being. Another great one passes on.

Rest in God's Eternal Peace, Levon.

Here is the article from the Toronto Star, Levon had made Toronto his home back in the 60's and you may find this has a slightly different outlook on the man. he was very much beloved by Torontonians and Canadians in general.

Sad to hear. What drummer in the musical world today can one even begin to compare to Levon? Impossible. Unique, creative and one of a kind.

For sure mate. Just finished watching The Last Waltz, in tribute.

Always sad, but we've all got that one comin'. But I sure am thankful he lived.

Re: Levon Helm

This might seem odd.

I know him, but never REALLY listened.

So I should pick "dirt Farmer," "the basement tapes," and what else?

I tend to learn about things AFTER the fact, such as here.

Any suggestions? I should point out I ma pretty familiar with the Band stuff, but that is about it. I always wondered what else to lsiten to.

I did feel he seemed so natural behind the drums, and had good tone.
