what is this piano song?!
ok so im watching the movie "Ray" and he starts playing this classical piano song (not one of his own) and ive heard it before but i dont know what it is. if anyone is familiar with the movie, its the part where where he just tells mary ann that he wrote a solo for her. she begins arguing with Margie and in the background ray is playing this dark sounding piano tune. ive heard it plenty of times, but i dont know what it is, can anyone help me out? i tried to find a video but i cant find one : /

those are his songs yes, but there was a song he was playing on that part before the argument arose that isnt his, its a slow dark sounding classical piece i believe.

i agree, its quite embarrassing, truth is though, im 20, never had kind of classical training, i wish i did. i wish i was knowledgeable of all the real deal classical composers, but im just not : /

I have a hard time with names of musicians, songs, albums, actors, acquaintances. I don't think some people are wired to know the liner notes of everything they hear without some training. Most of my favorite albums that I've listened to literally hundreds of times I couldn't tell the track list in complete. It's somewhere between trivia and really useful information for me. In terms of music enjoyment that stuff is trivial, in terms of communicating ideas to other musicians it's certainly detrimental.

My classical and jazz knowledge is terrible, but for the last couple years I've listened to them more than any other genre. Is it better to hear the feel and the sound and have no knowledge of the people or groups' variations? Or to build a network of resources to get there?

Breadth first search versus depth first imo.
