BBC UK Top Gear, greatest Car show on the planet?

Well, I think so, but then again, I'm easily pleased. The total refusal to deal with the mundane, the superb mates chemistry between three disparate presenters, the sarcasm coupled with blatent sexist banter, the stupid challenges, etc, etc, set this masterpiece apart IMO. The most successful TV car franchise in history, they must be doing something right. Stolen from the Harry Conway thread, here's a clip that tickled MikeM;

And who can forget the "Convertible Challenge": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eoUutOsZoQ

And the crazy "Channel crossing challenge":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTVPPTV-bQM

And for me, the best piece of car engineering stupidity in history:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b4WzWFKQ20 Only let down by one release bolt, totally awsome! This is the "boys toys" clip to end all boys toys clips!

The latest caravan challenge is killer. That is my favorite show on TV. I hope they dont go through with the US version because I know they will try to make every line funny in some way and it will come off as forced. Those three guys play off each other so well it cant be duplicated.

My interest in cars is non-existant. I want a car that runs smoothly with minimal problems, and that can fit what I need to fit into it.

However, I love Top Gear UK. The challenges are too obviously staged now, but the older ones were great!

Yeah, though it's run its course I fear.

Have a look at the feeble efforts of Top Gear Australia, Jonsey........with that as the competition, I think it's fair to say that there's plenty of life in the old girl yet. :-)

Those are some great clips! A coworker says he's seen this show before, so evidently it is shown here in the States. I don't do much TV and can't remember the last time I turned it on - not so much out of virtue as it is the internet winning all my screen time.

They have a load of the top gear challenge cars on show at Beaulieu National Motor Museum, including what I suspect to be a mock up of the Reliant Rocket. I've also watched motor-cycle lessons on their test track (my ex-girlfriend was learning to ride)

Top Gear has gone a little to much to sway of acting in front of the cameras and prepared gags.

I heard mention that they're going to stop doing the marathon challenges, such as racing a truffle back to London in a car and aeroplane. I love the long challenges, the Vietnam special was fantastic as was the race to Edinburgh in 50's vintage modes of travel.

Yeah it's shown in the US on "BBC world" or whatever. Dunno what most people over there made of the US special if they even dared show it lol.
