Dave DiCenso

What an awesome drummer is Dave DiCenso. I hear names of drummers being raved about, but not many would be as good as this guy. His playing in this clip is unbelievable. The speed, accuracy and feel leaves me breathless. I don't know if this clip has been posted before.

Watch and be amazed.

I think Dream Theater ought to give Dave a call...

Re: Dave DiCenso

That would be interesting. Dave's brother John lives in Terre Haute, Indiana (where I live). He normally competes in our store drum-off.

Dave is sick. Blazing chops, feeling, finesse and groove.

Dave is just awesome. His work with Jon Finn's band is fun, interesting and jaw-dropping. I'd love to catch that band live some day.

Re: Dave DiCenso

Dave is a groove monster, and his chops are out of this world. However, he also has that all too rare ability of being able to pull it all back and really play for the song. Amazing player, most definitely.

As far as I know, Dave doesn't tour any more. He does the odd session, but other than that he's focused on teaching and family life these days.

Dave is better than everybody else. He's the man.

Re: Dave DiCenso

Dave is one of those freaks of nature. One of the people who's ability is so high that my mind can not accept the fact that they are really THAT good. His brother John Dicenso is also an absolute monster and he happens to live in the same town that I live in. I'm going to try and get hooked up with some lessons from John.

hey all! I'am big fan of dave. His MDF solo i thought was one of the best i ever seen. I been studying with his father Dick Dicenso for the past 3 years and his universal rythems book is part of my lesson. What i liked about the video you posted was how to practice the exercises without the drum set, just useing hand and mouth. So thank you for that. Peace, John bag out.

lol - you might want to ask the mods to change the thread title. Unless Dave C is an active member who answers questions on the thread, then he's not actually "here" :)

Fantastic drummer ... his energy is right up there.

Ha! Easy mistake to make.

Maybe contact Dogbreath (he's a mod here) via his page http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/member.php?u=7 and under the contact details tab you'll see an option to send him a private message.

Either that or you could contact Dave and see if he'll log on and answer questions :)

Which one? Did you contact Dogbreath or Dave? lol

Dave's pretty much leading everyone in terms of the package deal. He gets the notion that drumming can be a language that is spoken. He's got an amazing vocabulary, constantly uses dynamics, and has a deep pocket. He's ridiculous.

Drummonster88 09-19-2011 09:05 PM

Re: Dave DiCenso

agree with that! and he is an awesome teacher too!! ;)

Re: Dave DiCenso

Dave DiCenso also played on Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci's solo CD "Suspended Animation". Killer playing on that one. Great instrumental guitar music, too. Very melodic compared to DT's more recent output.

Hadn't come across Dave.

I was blown away by his spot on the Modern Drummer Festival 2008 DVD.

Absolutely phenomenal playing - groove, technique, musicality, power.

Intend to check out more of his playing....

Yeah, Dave is a phenomenal drummer and musician (although a phenomenal drummer
is of course a musician automatically :) )!!

I was just listening to that album a couple days ago. Awesome drumming. Jaws of Life? Ohhh yeaaah. I hope Thomas Lang gets the call for Petrucci's next album though. I would love to see his creative input behind Petrucci's guitar. They gotta keep that bass player Dave LaRue too, he's great.

Wow, thanks for that!

Well, knock me down with a feather!

I'll sleep better tonight for knowing that!

There's no such thing as the best drummer in the world since it's an art form and it's all subjective. None the less, Dave is the best drummer in the world.

Great link!

Dave must be related to Vin Diesel, haha! (as far as voice and a bit of appearance...!?)

About that video of DDC's ... does anyone else think his voice and way of speaking is a lot like Bill Cosby? :) ... and very funky ...

I love this guy.

I have only seen small clips on youtube (plus I have his book).

Gonna give that Suspended Animation album a dig but where else can I check him out?
