That was... equally disturbing and amazing. Mad props to that girl. I hope I can play that well at some point in my life.

Yes, that song is like chipmunks or something... but the girl is killing the drums! Wow!

Re: i hate to do this....

She was just signed to play for the next Chipmunk's movie.
She is getting $600.000 US!

Wow she's a natural. She's got "it". I love seeing this, plus she's adorable, what a smile!

Wow, it's been ages since I even thought about K-ON!. Anime has never been the same for me...

But yeah, this girl has got it! I hope she ends up playing more than generic anime theme songs eventually.

Wow!! that was cool. The best part of it she looks so happy. She's a natural you can just see it but don't get carried away dudes she's not playing anything that complicated. Don't get me wrong she's will be a monster if she keeps at it, she really is a natural. Plus she looks like she enjoys it and that's awesome. Nice props to her, I thought she was awesome.

that was great! did you see how popular she is? she has almost 10,000 subscribers to her channel and over 1700 youtube friends! she's already a star.

She's great! Great drumming, period.

I didn't want to make a sexist comment, but I think I like her musicality better than Hannah Ford's.....ok....someone can flame me now...

That upload showed a musical maturity I'm sure at least I don't show!

Great easy feel and such authority for someone so young. Having a ton of fun on the way too. She's certainly destined for good things, & the very best of luck to her.

+1. Her timing and feel are so spot on. She blew my mind in the fusion tune. If she keeps that up she'll be on the front page of this site before she's 18!

+ 1/2 ... too late for me but that's what I'd be thinking if I was 30 years younger :)

that kind of authority for a 13 year old is what is so amazing to me. when i was 13 i played with authority but it was god awful.

The thing that struck me was her musicality and she looks so at ease behind the kit, not to mention her ability...Fantastic stuff, she's great!

Re: Senri Kawaguchi (13 years old....)

That girl is outstanding!!!! She puts my playing to shame, as mentioned before she seems so natural behind the kit... at 13! Even if J-pop songs from Anime aren't your thing you gotta love this girl.

Twenty posts since 6:00 yesterday! She certainly got your attention.

Re: Senri Kawaguchi (13 years old....)

Kids got major chops....I also note that she looks just as comfortable behind a jazz kit as well as a 7 pc....shes wonderful to watch, and man, I could certainly take a few lessons from her.....she has style.

I think I am in love... just kidding... or am I?

This makes me want to cry. This girl's drumming is just amazing for her age, i just can't believe what she will become as she ages.

Dude, she's thirteen..

I wonder if there is some pushy parenting behind this. If not, then maybe she will become awesome as she gets older and more mature.
Too often do I see parents living through their kids,
making them practice day in and day out. Not only in music, but sports and even in beauty pageants.
Many of these "wonder-kids" dont make it big, they get bored, since they get no time with friends etc. Only yesterday I read about a chinese girl being forced to practice her piano, while the instructor stuck needles in her fingers when she played wrong. She almost quit, but she remembered how much she loved her instrument and kept playing. She's pretty big in the classical scene today.
I may sound a bit jealous, but it's a shame to see so much talent go down the drain, because some parent had a boring life and want their kid to be the next buddy rich.

You know i am completely kidding right? BTW i'm just 3 years older so its not THAT bad... but in all seriousness, don't take me seriously!

I think this girls having too much damn fun for me to think she is a forced prodigy. No doubt her parents pushed all they could out of her, but its not like she is suffering.

Can we get a transcription of the beat she plays in the beginning? I'm so about learning that sound she has.

Seconded. She's actually got the chops, talent and feel to back up the hype behind her.

Here's an older clip of Senri...her play when she was 12 y/o (the age when she started to cover K-ON! stuff), playing with a Japanese fusion band Fragile. Her teacher Kozo Suganuma is playing percussions behind the guitar player.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEUdDZw-B7o

P.S. The final episode of K-ON! anime season 2 was just aired last night in Japan

not sure why im posting this, but i just noticed she's using a floor tom as a throne. i wonder which is the most comfortable drum head ......

dairyairman 09-17-2010 05:29 PM

Re: Senri Kawaguchi (13 years old....)

i think that's one of those gear cases that doubles as a throne.

btw, i found a video of her teacher kozo suganuma. he's awesome! i really enjoyed it!

New clip was just uploaded...she's playing another tune from K-On! anime.
Her play is outstanding, and also I just couldn't stop smiling when watching the frog :-)

I just watched that video myself, I'm subscribed to her. The playing is killer of course, but man does that music get on my nerves! Haha :D

She's good for her age, and she definitely enjoys playing, but what she's playing isn't that hard.

She definitely has potential tho
