The best of Craigslist

http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/msg/1811298970.html

I saw this ad in the Tampa Craigslist and emailed the guy to offer some advice. I told him that he needed to remove the tape from the toms so that there would not be suspision that the drums could not be tuned properly.

The dude emailed me back and told me the drums had been tuned by Derek Roddy and they were better sounding drums than anything I had ever seen. It went downhill from there. Can you imagine.?

Re: The best of Craigslist

Unfortunately that kind of stuff is all over Craigslist. The drums and the people...

As you found out, it's best to just leave it alone; even if they do need loads of help. It never ends well.

That's like going to Wal-mart and trying to advise people there how to dress...

Well, it is a quality Pulse drum set . . .

Re: The best of Craigslist

Every time that I tried to give another drummer advice without being asked it always ended badly.
The last time was just a few weeks ago when I suggested that a drummer try tightening his bottom tom heads a bit more.
I was listening to him sound check at a gig and I had a momentary lapse of reason.
I forgot my first rule! Never Volunteer Suggestions!

Re: The best of Craigslist

Perhaps Derek Roddy told him to use the often forgotten "Electrical Tape/Pie Formation" tuning technique.

That reminds me of a guy I knew in high school named Doug that played drums. He was about as sharp as a bowling ball and smoked far too much weed far too often.

We referred to him as "Drug the dummer"!

ROFL....

Well GD the add does say: "Everything you'll ever need"

ROFL...again

If my wife saw this add, she'd buy it and tell me that too. I would then go to Wal-Mart and buy her that "last" pair of shoes.

Re: The best of Craigslist

How do these people get ahold of kits like these and not know how to spell the GIANT NAME ON THE BASS DRUM? Or the name clearly printed on symbo...cymbals.

There are tons of these winners out there. People are always trying to take some poor fool for more money than they should with bogus deals. Did you bring up the point of if the kit is properly tuned, then why are one of the toms on the floor without electrical tape? I'm hoping these are just outdated pics and the info is correct, but I doubt it.

And I liked the post of Perle, Symbols, and Drumbs! That's classic. I agree...they took a pic of the dang kit, how hard is it to look at the pic you took and copy the name? I won't even touch symbols or drumbs...I just hope that poster is under the age of 10, otherwise they should take the money they get for the kit and buy "hookeb onn fonix."

I love these threads. People will do anything now a days to make a buck. lol

I like the ones where people are trying to pass off B8's, ZHT's etc.... as "Professional" cymbals. Some of those have made for funny advertisement. lol

LOL ... a fulltime pro percussionist to play with young unorganised metal guys ... love to hear that conga tappin' away under the shredding!

The bit about not telling everyone he's a ukulele-ist was a crack-up :)

Re: The best of Craigslist

1. I've seen a lot of ads where the person doesn't know how to count the number of pieces in a drumset correctly, e.g. 4 drums + 3 cymbals + a few stands = 13 piece drumset!

2. I also like the ones where people try to rip you off by taking $50 off the MSRP for cymbals or drums and call it a "great deal", nevermind that the street price for the same stuff new is way less than what they're asking.

3. My favorite though, are the ads looking for drummers where the poster clearly takes himself waaaay too seriously, has completely unrealistic demands/expectations, and is vaguely insulting at the same time. Something like, "I am fully committed to making it as a musician. I believe my music is some of the best music ever written. If you're not 100% on board with what I'm trying to do, then I don't waste my time. If you're already in another band, then you need to quit that before you can be in mine. I want experienced professionals only. I already have some gigs booked, so I need you to learn 40 songs by next week. Also you need to provide a practice space for all of us to use, 3+ times a week. Since I'm doing all the work here and this is my band, you won't get paid until we get signed to a label."

These posts on Craigslist made me go *facepalm* so hard it blew a hole in my forehead. And even through that I was wondering how they could sound so stupid.

I congratulate Grunter for making this thread.

Well seeing as Derek Roddy is on this forum we should see weather he tuned those... nevermind. those aren't drums. How on earth could anyone tune them? Other than Joey Jordison or Travis Barker.

Implying Joey Jordison has no drumming skill whatsoever.

Re: The best of Craigslist

I got a kick out of this one on kijiji (sort of craigslist in Canada):

"I have a tama drum throne for sale. Bought it one year ago.
Needs fixing, no big deal. The throne won't stay up when you sit on it. Easy thing to fix. I want $50" (add that to the fact that it was about the cheapest throne imaginable - single braced, maybe 1" of padding..)

What pisses me off the most is the ignorance/arrogance of people who are too uninformed, stupid, or greedy and thus feel entitled to charge ridiculous amounts and ignore depreciation. I use those sites to offload items, not turn a profit.

$45?!!

The first guy has some nice kits for sale.

The Drum Dial sells for $60 new. He could be talked down to $35.

I don't get your post?

Howdy Captain ... I think you're being a bit harsh there. He's clearly saying is he has a low end beginner kit that was an unwanted present ... and it even has a symble!

The ad could not paint a clearer picture :)

Just like when people try and advertise Squires as Fenders annoys me when people try and pass of PDP as a DW. I'll go on Ebay and search DW Drums and 75% of the post' are PDPs that they are trying to pass off as DW.
