Water Chance
Evening all,

This is possibly the most trivial thing to ever to be posted on here.

Someone at work showed me a "Link Word" quiz as she couldnt get the last answer.

The link words are "Water" and "Chance". So just to clarify, you need to think of a word which can be after water, and before chance. The answer is 4 letters. All three words do not have to link.

For example if your link words are "Fight" and "Sandwich" the answer could be "Club".

My area manager at work is getting headaches and having nightmares over it (not really but she won't stop asking me if I have found an answer yet) so I thought I'd ask the forum here. There must be someone here with a mind for that sort of thing.

Thanks for trying,

Sorry for wasting your time :)

Pool water and pool chance also works by the way. One could say, "Do you want to buy a Pool Chance?" when speaking of football gambling! Of corse Pool Water! Ding!!! Winer!!!
Grunt, You owe me a snare drum for that one! LOL

Re: Water Chance
Bob the missing word has to go after the first word and before the second word.

Water_______ and ________chance

bobdadruma 11-29-2009 07:39 PM

Re: Water Chance
Oh Don't get technical!
Im just kidding by the way in case you didn't realize!

Re: Water Chance
That's a noodle scratcher. The best I can come up with is 'main', although 'main chance' seems unlikely.

Should this be approached literally or cryptically?

bobdadruma 11-29-2009 07:47 PM

Re: Water Chance
Water spot and spot chance? They may say spot chance somewhere in the world?
Yanks Spot Chance to win series. News headline

bobdadruma 11-29-2009 08:02 PM

Re: Water Chance
Water mark and Mark Chance. I went to school with Mark. I dated his sister for a while.

bobdadruma 11-29-2009 08:11 PM

Re: Water Chance
Water Foil and Foil Chance.
A water foil is a type of a boat. Yanks foil chance of winning.

Re: Water Chance
Water Foul and Foul Chance.
Water foul = ducks in water

Doom 11-29-2009 09:09 PM

Re: Water Chance
Jonescrusher - I think its literal. The other examples in the same quiz were.

Re: Water Chance

Water main.

Main chance.

Anyway, it works.

Deltadrummer 11-29-2009 11:45 PM

Re: Water Chance
Water remote chance we have of finding an answer.

bobdadruma 11-29-2009 11:49 PM

Re: Water Chance
I think that someone put a wrong word in the puzzle by mistake. It must be an error.
Plus there are only so many four letter words that you can say on DW!

That's what makes it easier, the fact that the missing word has only four letters. "Main" works because it has only four letters and it makes sense with both water and chance.

Google "water main" and "main chance." It works.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! It's my final answer, and I still have all my life-lines!

Will we be notified of the correct answer when it's revealed?

Re: Water Chance
I think 'spot' works too, no? You can have a 'spot chance,' can't you?

Thats my vote for best one also. See post #9.

Doom 11-30-2009 02:54 AM

Re: Water Chance
Con Struct - I thought of "Main" too but "Main Chance"?

Yes it is a sentence but it doesnt work the same way "Water Main" does if you see what I mean. Likewise "Spot Chance".

"Water Tiger" and "Tiger Chance" are just as good.

The answer hopefully will be like a eureka moment.

Re: Water Chance
maybe its more philosophical, water = life = chance

joeysnare 12-01-2009 06:37 AM

My favorite answer so far.

bobdadruma 12-03-2009 01:52 AM

Re: Water Chance
Are you sure that four letters was the right amount for the key word?
couldn't it have been a type-o?
Water sporting and sporting chance!
Im still thinking about this!

Re: Water Chance

water base - base chance

How about "fair"?

Water fair ... fair chance.

Re: Water Chance
There seem to be brand new ideas being created as a side-effect. Isn't the human imagination a marvellous thing?

Unfortunately mine can't come up with anything right now. Hmm.

Re: Water Chance
All I can say is thanks a lot. I have used up more energy trying to get this thing and I CAN"T LET IT GO!

Water pool? Pool Chance? that's the best I got...for now...

nicotine25 12-03-2009 03:57 PM

Re: Water Chance
What about drop? water drop....drop chance?....is there such a thing as a drop chance?

nicotine25 12-03-2009 03:59 PM

Re: Water Chance
or how about rain? water rain...rain chance?

PQleyR 12-03-2009 04:51 PM

Re: Water Chance
Seems like more things have water before them than chance after them. Maybe the way to go about this is to think of things that fit with chance first, and then see if they fit with water.

larryace 12-04-2009 12:24 AM

Re: Water Chance
It must be impossible, because I can't figure it out. :) (JK)
I think some sick twisted individual put this there to torture people like me. There is no link word!

jonescrusher 12-04-2009 01:51 AM

Re: Water Chance
Doom, for God's sake get hold of the answer and put Larry out of his misery...

Pollyanna 12-04-2009 02:17 AM

Re: Water Chance
Don't be silly. The answer is "fair".

"water fair" - a phrase search on Google yields 26,000 entries

"fair chance" - a phrase search on Google yields over 200,000 entries

"Water fair" isn't very satisfying but that happens in these things at times. Same with crosswords. You get answers where you think they have got to be kidding.

Re: Water Chance
What about

Less Chance

Side Chance

Doom 12-04-2009 03:52 PM

Re: Water Chance
Haha, this is ridiculous.

I have asked all the smartest people I know and I can't get an answer.

Sporting was the best so far but its not four letters.

I might be able to find out the magazine which this was in and write to them. :)

larryace 12-05-2009 02:02 AM

Re: Water Chance
Just to complicate things, suppose it was a typo like water change

Doom 12-14-2009 07:21 PM

Re: Water Chance
Well we found out what magazine it was from and got the issue with the answers.

I'm sorry to say the official answer is "Main".

Doesnt seem to work for me but what can I say.

Thanks for all your guesses.

jonescrusher 12-14-2009 07:34 PM

Re: Water Chance
Rather unsatisfying, but i'll take the honours for the correct answer - don't post another unless you're in possession of the answer ;)
