Riffs That Make You Go "Oooh..."

I decided to make this because I was listening to one of my favorite [guitar] riffs of all time, and I would love to know what everyone's favorite riffs may be.

At this moment, my favorite is the last quarter or so of this live recording of Muse's "Knights of Cydonia". Great guitar in general, loads of triplets, but this recording in particular really stood out to me.

(Starts around 5:04, if you just want to get to the goods. It's even in HD!)

Whenever I think riff, I think Pantera. Cowboys from hell and Cemetery Gates have always seemed like "Ooohh" riffs.

"Cannon" by the White Stripes.

And the first riffs in "Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin and "5 on the 5" by the Raconteurs are especially amazing.

I don't listen to a lot of Metal, so when I came across this, i was impressed. I thought it built and was musical and melodic, but maybe I'm just musically simpleminded....

Hottentot - John Scofield

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxQt3ybsIbM (Not a great recording, or version - imo! But great guitar riff, none-the-less.)

Cissy Strut is undeniably an insanely catchy and funky guitar riff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FBnQvd_xzs (starts around 1 minute, cool drum intro tho...)

I always loved the riff in "Root" by The Deftones as well.

While I haven't heard much from Platypus, I myself am a Flobots fan. Saw them live. EPIC.

GD and iwilliams-
I'm glad you guys brought those older ones up, Motown and Classic Rock riffs don't get enough credit around here!

Man, I am jealous. I have only youtube'd Platypus because the one copy I have ever seen was on Ebay for $150 which I decided was ridiculous for seven songs. From what I have heard it is great though.

Wow man, Hottentot is an insane track! I love Martin Medeski Wood and Scofield, but I don't have that album I only have Chank. And of course Cissy Strut is a great song.

Heavy for sure. I really like how they kind of just give you a taste of that riff. It just makes me feel like it never gets old within the song.
I discovered the song in 2007 I think... I wanted to punch myself in the face when I found it was made 10 years earlier. Amazing how easy it is to miss some of the best stuff going on.

Well considering my age and the average of most here, I'm surprised most have even heard of Motown.

One of my favorite rock songs...and albums. I bought it the year it came out and didn't put it down for months. DEFINITELY a killer melody, all of them.

Well i know it's heavier than other things mentioned but if you like heavy, industrial metal then Body Hammer by Fear Factory in my eyes is the ultimate guitar riff. Especially when the drums come in its like having your eyes sucked out.

Right on GD. A true Motown classic.

In an opposite direction I'll throw in this one. One More Red Nightmare opening riff by King Crimson.

So dark and twisted sounding.

Hysteria is the most epic sing I've heard in my life, and that bass line line is like a train the whole way through.

I like the rhythmic riff off "I am a pig" by Rob Halford
but the guitar riffs at the beginning of
The Hellion/Electric eye by Judas Priest are amongst my favourites.

Edit:- Actually I like anything by Judas Priest
Glenn Tipton and KK Downing are the riff masters!
