Re: Bands or acts you regret missing before they passed away

The only time I really felt bad for not having seen someone before they died was Elvin Jones. I remember feeling really bad at the time of his death because I was going through a period of intense Elvin envy and I had even decided to try and find a way to make it to one of his performances. I got slightly choked up the day he died. Just for a minute.

Over the past year so many of my favorite Afro-Cuban influences have passed as well. Almost an entire generation of those guys died within about two years of each other. Luckily the tradition they carried out of Cuba and Puerto Rico is strong all over the world now.

I did see him live. twice. He was riveting. You could not take your eyes off him. And that strat made sounds I didn't know existed or were possible- even Hendrix would have said that..

I wish I'd seen Coltrane, Monk, Cecil Taylor, Duke Ellington's orchestra, Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery.

Yeah, and parents tell their young kids that they're just "taking a break" or "daddy's taking a trip".

Don't get me wrong--I want them to get back together, but I'm not holding my breath...

Good riddance. Everything since Colour and the Shape has been crap. Great band before popularity took hold of them.

Totally. They jumped the shark with the Alanis Morrisette drummer guy.

Re: Bands or acts you regret missing before they passed away

I missed a Mogwai and F--- Buttons show a few months ago... I could have gone, but it would have cost me over $100 in gas and 14 hours on the road.

I would much rather have gone, and regretted it until I made the money back... instead I kept the money, but have regretted it ever since.

Re: Bands or acts you regret missing before they passed away

I guess I'm pretty lucky, I DID get to see a lot of the bands mentioned here so far, so I'm not too bummed about those I've missed

I DID get to see:
SRV (once)
Queen (3 times)
AC/DC (with Bon, once, Powerage tour)
Frank Zappa (once with Bozzio once with Caliutta)
Thin Lizzy (twice)
Van Halen (twice, first time as an opening act for Sabbath)
Sabbath, w/Ozzy (see above)
And tons of others.

My only regret was not seeing Zep live, that would have been sweet.

Strapping Young Lad
Vader

I saw S.Y.L just in 2006, I felt so lucky when I heard they'd broken up. Now they're all in Zimmers hole, who despite being funny sometimes, suck.

I would have killed to see Damageplans first gig at Download 04". My parents wouldn't let me go down to Donnington though because I was only 14 at the time and nobody older would take me. I went to the one in Glasgow with some friends, which was a great time, but I was always a bit sad about missing Damageplan, especially when I heard about Dimes murder.

There`re so many!

For example E.S.T...they would have played a concert in a very near town, just about 60 km away.

Though through Esbjörn`s death I started listening to E.S.T. actively.

Guess I should add Buddy Rich, Don't much care for that style of music but to watch him play that kit live would be friggin awesome.
