Isaac Hayes, dead at 65.

One of the greatest songwriters of my generation died today. I always had a lot of respect for Isaac Hayes, and all those great tunes he wrote. The Stax sound wouldn't have happened the way it did without him on the sax, keys and writing those great songs.
Sad news, really.

You bastards!

Yeah very sad. So many iconics of the music business have left us recently.

Well, that sucks. Always loved Isaac Hayes. I guess everyone did. Says he just finished working on a movie about Stax with Bernie Mac. That's too bizarre. Makes you wish there really were a heaven.

First Bernie Mac, now Isaac Hayes.

They say it always comes in 3's......

I lost a lot of respect when he refused to do Southpark because they took a shot at Scientology. The man made so much money off of making fun of everybody else but couldn't take it when the joke was on him.

Still a great loss to music though. His music is something I can't loose respect for, no one does it like Isaac Hayes

That is soooo eerie. I was listening to the Theme from Shaft on my iPod today, and it ran out of battery in the middle of the song. Crazy. He will be missed.

Hey aydee! ;-)

It's probably a common mistake, but Issac Hayes didn't open up Woodstock.

That was Richie Havens, who I believe is still alive.

But it does NOT take away from the tragic news of Issac Hayes' passing, who was certainly a pioneer to his craft.

RIP IH! :-(

That Isaac was a bad Motha, SHUT YOUR MOUTH, But I was talking about Isaac. The theme from Shaft! I always liked that song. It was popular when I was in school. We played it in marching band. He was a musical innovator who left a large mark.

Dig it! Let's give it up for Isaac Hayes, who wrote so many great songs, including this one performed live by Sam and Dave and the fantastic Stax band:

Now that, people, is music!

Here in Memphis, there is much sadness. We also recently lost Thomas Boggs who was the drummer for the Box Tops.

Man, I just listened to his version of Aretha's 'Walk on By' - such a great rearrangement of it. The man was one hell of a cat...

He will be sorely missed.
