Aha, I knew it!

Rock Band does prepare you for real life drumming! (apologies to Gruntersdad)

I don't believe anything I see on tv. This is no exception.

Do I think the game promotes independence and timing? Definitely. It's not like guitar hero where you aren't playing anything close to chords. The drumming aspect of it gets you to do the motions and memorize the parts. If kids actually practiced real instruments they might be suprised!

if kids dedicated a fraction of the time the spend glued in front of a video game to an actual instrument they would do themselves a world of good.

obviously that guy played the drums to some degree... he didn't get to that skill level off the dumb video game.

I doubt you will get the correct wrist / hand / finger motion of a video game like that. Or any sense of rhythm, my housemates play guitar hero hoping it will help them develop a sense of rhythm but so far it hasn't helped a bit. The guitar track is usually off by a little bit, I get higher scores with the sound off than with the sound on because the rhythm of the music is not disturbing me and I can focus on the rhythm of the buttons to press.

I think that Rock Band is good for timing, but it doesn't go much further than that in my opinion. Kevin (the guy playing the drums) has been playing for years. The drums are nothing new to him.

Apology accepted, but not necessary. I will continue to use Garageband and leave Rock Band to the gaming set.

I know, but believe me, no more moderating the forum after a night of no sleep!
