Stan Lynch

I've been away for a while, but I had to post something about my new favorite drummer, Mr. Stan Lynch. Yes, Stan Lynch of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fame.

So underrated, understated. But if you listen closely - anything off Damn the Torpedos, you will here some great sounding drums, highly creative and sneaky fills thrown into some straight ahead songs.

Don't believe me? Listen to 'Don't Do Me Like That' and tell me he isn't wonderful.

Stan needs a page on Drummerworld.

Re: Stan Lynch
Hey Matts,

Great choice. He does so many "little" things so well that adds so much to the music. The guy definitely deserves more love. I can't remember which song it is off the top of my head (one of their older ones if memory serves) and just they way he went from clicking the hi-hat with his left foot on all four beats to just on the 2 & 4 just prior to going back into the main groove added a ton to the feel of the song IMO.

Re: Stan Lynch
he is a great player, always plays for the song and a huge pocket.

Re: Stan Lynch
I read an interview with Stan years ago where he stated that he was pretty much dictated exactly what to play by Tom & some of the other senior members of the band. He is indeed a fine drummer though.

Re: Stan Lynch
Stan lynch beat the crap out of a drum machine with a bat or something. He's true to the art of acoustic drumming!

Re: Stan Lynch
Yes, I love Stan's playing. He's got such a "down to earth" style if that makes sense. His drumming is just so simple yet tasteful. He should have a page on drummerworld!

Can't believe he doesn't have a page here.
There is an amazing interview with Stan in a recent Modern Drummer issue. It's the one with Thomas Haake on the cover. In the interview Stan talks a lot about the early days of the Heartbreakers and he doesn't hold back and try to sugarcoat everything. It's seems like he really had to get some things off his chest.
