Neil peart's hat?

Does anyone know what hat or head covering that neil has been wearing in concerts the last couple of years?

I assume it's from his travels to Africa.

I have no problem with it because I am watching his feet and arms for most of the show.

You are probably referring to a Kofia. pictures here: http://www.rebirth.co.za/african_hats.htm

He wears the Kofia to keep sweat out of his eyes.

according to his tech anyway.

I personally think that it really suits him. It kind of sets off his nickname of the "professor". Makes him seem more wise and seasoned, and also makes the rest of the band look older since you can't see the hairline anymore.

Boomers are funny that way. Look on the bright side, he's not wearing dreads.

You can get Neil Peart style caps here:

http://www.kendiskustoms.com/cubekar...d&productId=41

Make sure you follow the sizing instructions carefully as they do not stretch much, but they look great., And he will also make them with custom fabric for the brim, you just have to email to discuss the details. But the caps he has in stock are really, very good looking, very professional.

I've been looking for about 6 months for these myself, and when I found this link, I figured I might as well share. The are under $40 which is actually a very good price.

Enjoy!

Peace...

Kinda makes him look like a colourful chef's assistant ... Hey! Check out this dood, maaan, he's really cookin!

Would you like fries and a coke with that paradiddle, ma'am?

Or maybe it's more like a shallow version of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkv7uC-pAQE ...

I think I'll get one of those. They look cool.

In the rock band I play in, the bass guitar player wears a black brim hat like Richie Blackmore has been known to wear on occasion. The rhythm guitar player wears a red bandana like a biker would wear it. Both those guys look ok in them,

The lead has long hair and is considering a black beret like Jeff Baxter wore, but he doesn't want all 4 of us to wind up wearing hats.....it'll look - and I agree - too goofy.

We don't want to be 4 middle-aged guys looking like dorks and known as "the hat band".

lol ... it surely has to be better than wearing a short-order chef's hat. So are you wearing a trilby for your performances, MFB. Sharp, dood :)

Mediocrefunkybeat 09-03-2009 10:05 AM

Re: Neil peart's hat?

No, no trilby. But I do have a few dodgy hats lying around.

Pollyanna 09-03-2009 03:38 PM

Re: Neil peart's hat?

You could be onto something here, MFB, adding that certain savoir faire required for the style. I can't wear hats because my heair is curly and sticks out, and when I take the hat off it's flattened on the top.

So it's blues with fuzzy hair for me, as oppsed to prog with a short-order chef's hat on. I guess he felt wearing a headband would be too hippyish.

I can relate to the sweat-in-the-eyes problem, though. Many years ago I played the last song of a gig blind because it hurt too much to open my eyes.
