HellHammer (Jan Axel Blomberg)

What do you lot think of him?

I think he is a very cool, talented and underated drummer.
Some of you may not like black/death metal, but you have to admire his penchant for weird timing and stop start bass drum patterns a a gazillion BPM.

Wow, I see the thread name was changed. Awesome.

Good idea mods, as Jan has been in other projects not under the name of HellHammer.

Cheers guys.

Hellhammer rules, He was the first black metal drummer i was truly impressed by. Some of the stuff he did with "Thorns" is unbelivible. his recordings with immoral where also insainly solid and well composed. And the new Dimmu Borgir album is deadly!

Unfortunately he has really injured his right arm recently. Reports say it is a major break that will require surgury and heavy rehabilitation. Mayhem has had to cancel their US tour due to this unfortunate incident. Here is a link: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bla...wsitemID=75347

I can't get enough of his drumming on the Sham Mirrors by Arcturus, probably one of my favourite modern so-called black metal ever. Each song has his particular signature as for each members of Arcturus. From fast double bass to slower heavy grooves, HellHammer is a complete metal drummer.

i dont thin hellhammer ever played with cradle fo filth neither immortal(not in studio). He helped immortal in their '95 battles in the north tour, and also played in the "grim and frostbitten" video...he also helped in tour the awesome band Emperor (featuring Trym-an amazing drummer by the way).
He has been involved in theese bands:
Antestor, Arcturus (Nor), Carnivora, Covenant (Nor), Jorn(live), Dimmu Borgir, Mezzerschmitt, Mortem (Nor), Shining (Swe)(he has done awesome work!), The Kovenant, Thorns, Troll, Vidsyn, Winds (Nor), Tritonus, Age of Silence,Dimmu borgir,Immortal(live),Emperor(live),Fleurety

but im 100% he hasnt done anything with cradle of filth
cradle used nikolas barker until "From the Cradle to Enslave" EP...then Adrian Erlandsson
(ex THE HAUNTED) was behind the drumkit.
Currently they have a new guy called Manthas(or something). He is very cool...check him out on youtube!

Hellhammer is indeed great.

Hellhammer is absolutely amazing!

Does anybody know if he's using Axis's EKIT triggers for the bass drums or just regular rim-mounted triggers?

I like old school black metal (Venon, Sodom, Possessed) in that you knew they didn't take any of the tripe they sung about seriously. The new guys? The crowd from Norway and others not so much of a fan.

That said, this guy is a neat drummer and I like the little bit of work I have been able to consume.

I love Hellhammer. Him and Inferno where some of my biggest inspirational black/death metal drummers ever.

Very likely regular rim-mounted triggers, however it is possible that he uses ekits.

I recently met with HH on the MayheM show in San Diego, CA. Me and Him had been corresponding for quite a long time, my band Death of Desire needed someone with Jan Axe's caliber on the drumming, and it finally came through>

EXTREME BLACK METAL BAND WITH FEMALE VOCALIST AND HELLHAMMER (MAYHEM) ON DRUMS

Jan Axel Von Blomberg-Hellhammer (MayheM) has been recruited as the official Drummer for Death of Desire

The drum tracks are being recorded in Norway by the end of June while the band finishes the full length album 'ANTI-human' that will be released by the end of this year along with their official video.

Check back for updates soon.
