Re: John Marshall

So yeah...it was amazing!! All three musicians did an awesome job. It was a pretty versatile tracklist. They played folk-like stuff, samba stuff, Funk New Orleans influenced songs etc.
John really amazed me, after a few songs he got really warm and it was so pleasing to listen to his playing. He showed great independence, cool stickings and very natural and raw soloing...but the most important point: He had fun. And he showed passion.

Great night with three great musicians who lived the passion.

PS: Got to talk with John after the gig a few words and noticed that my spoken English isn`t THAT bad...(btw, John is such a nice person!)

Will try to upload a few samples from their first CD...

PPS: Now I know that it isn`t that bad I will call you Mr. Indyke! :-P

Re: John Marshall

Is this THE John Marshall from Soft Machine? One of the biggest acts in the late sixites - like Pink Floyd or The Stones?

Yes...it was THE John Marshall.
He is a very nice person...but unfotunatly we were not allowed to take our photographs with us so we couldn`t take pics...but I just got an autograph from him...

btw.: er, as I can see are there no tunes on his drummerworld site. Doesn`t he wanna have one or two on his site?
I could probably send you a good one from their first CD "taking a chance"...

PS: I also loved the sound of his Dry Light Ride... ;-)

What do you mean exactly? It was a concert...three musicians played songs for normal audience...

Re: John Marshall

Karl, thank you for mentioning this amazing drummer. I can understand you and Bernhard being excited about him because Soft Machine was a huge act in Europe in the 1970s. Check out the Soft Machine Six and Live In Paris 1973 CDs for some brilliant solos from Mr.Marshall.This man is easily in the highest league of drummers, yet is so under-rated...

Cool, a new post I didn`t notice till now! *being happy and jumping*

Mhh, have never heard of Soft Machine yet...maybe because it was not my time.
I`ll check it out definitly. What music style did they do?

I ask because nowadays John plays Jazz/Funk with his combo...
