Drummerworld forums on the iPad are rendered very badly

Hi all,

Just to vent that due to the amount of pages, the drummerworld page doesn't render correctly on the iPad which forces the user to zoom in every time he goes to a page which is very annoying...

Does more people experience the same?

Comes up fine on my iPad (except when there's a large image attached- then it zooms the whole page out which is a bit annoying)!

It would be nice if people didn't upload huge pics.
Also, some huge pics are blurred so resizing them (and maybe do some additional editing) would be another favour to the community as the pics would actually look much better.

I agree... I have an IPAD mini and the posts are not configured properly. Extremely small ...needs to be looked at. It's not the IPAD's.
Thanks!

The problem is in the forum, meaning since it has 100's of pages, it renders badly on the iPad. Here is an example of a screenshot:

Could the problem here be because you're using Safari? I don't have this issue on the ipad when using Chrome.

I get the same thing if I access from my (Android) phone.

As others have said, to fix it there needs to be a more elegant way of listing (or not listing) the number of pages.

It renders like this on all browsers. The only difference is that some load the page zoomed in on the main body, and some don't. I agree that it's crazy that the pages don't condense in forum view like they do in thread view, but I would assume there's some kind of limitation in vBulletin that makes it that way.

Unless iOS doesn't have this feature, you should be able to just double-tap on the main column of threads and have the browser resize to accomodate only that. Chrome for Android has this functionality. Otherwise, just zoom manually.

Re: Drummerworld forums on the iPad are rendered very badly

This happens in chrome too, and doesn't happen on a regular mac, so only mobile devices.

In Pearl drummers forum this doesn't happen and ai rexkon they're using vbulletin as well:

It is very annoying to zoom every time one enters the any forum. So if I enter a thread and then go back to the forum I need to zoom again... :(

Re: Drummerworld forums on the iPad are rendered very badly

In my experience, it's partly because of the number of pages that show. Along the top of each sub-forum, you can click to select from a huge number of archived pages and these always render horizontally - if that number was reduced then the issue would go on the sub-forum view.

No problems here on my Mac (or any desktop) - it is purely mobile rendering and specifically iOS. This forum was built before iOS!

Well, the issue is that there is no mobile version of the site. This site is not intended to be viewed on a mobile device. You can do it, but the experience is miserable. You need to use a computer.

I'm not a web developer, but I believe there are add-in APIs that can be used to build a mobile vbulletin site.

Not really. I mean Pearl Drummers Forum doesn't have an app, or the website is built for mobile devices, but those pages have ... in it which allow you to access more pages, instead of having the complete list like in DW forum

I just visited that site on my iPhone and I think it's just as unpleasant to navigate as Drummerworld. If it works for you, okay.

Mobile sites are a much different experience. You don't have to zoom everything and the whole thing is easy and looks good. I tend not to spend much time on non-mobile sites when browsing on a mobile device. It's too annoying for me.

When travelling I accessed DW by phone (Galaxy Note 2 with a large screen for a phone) and, yes, it was difficult at times. Didn't help that the wifi kept dropping out when I'd try to post. Lots of resizing when you post and sound renders poorly. It's fine if you just lurk and skip YouTube.
