Some Ludwig porn

OK. I finally got my player's zeppelin/rich kit dialed in after a strenuous concert weekend breaking them into live performance over three days. When I got them home, I set them back up in my practice room and this time set-up some flashes for some proper photography of the kit.

As you can see, the kit looks more vintage with the new Ludwig flat base cymbal stands, and I got smaller Yamaha single braced snare stands for the snare and tom. The only things that remain heavy on the kit are the hi-hat stand and the throne. I like solid thrones, and I want my hi-hats to stay in one place.

The last picture is what the kit looks like when I put it in "Sonor Safari" mode. Probably the way I'll play it most of the time. Do note the matching b/o badge Supra from the same era as the rest of the kit - that took some time to find without spending an arm and a leg!

Enjoy!

Drums: Ludwig 6-ply maple
16x26
9x13
16x16
16x18
6.5x14 Supraphonic

Cymbals: Zildjian A and K
14" A Quick Beats (soon to be 15" New Beats in a week or so)
17" & 18" A Thin Crashes
24" K Light Ride

Pedals: Tama
Hardware: Yamaha & Ludwig
Throne: DW 9100 with Roc n Soc top

Beautiful looking kit you have there.
I'll bet that bass drum positively thunders!

I feel guilty looking at these pictures. Gorgeous.

Those flat stands certainly set the kit off nicely. When using 1 floor tom, do you envisage using the 16" or the 18"? I think I'd be tempted to go for the 18" :)

Hmm. I automatically would go for the 16, but I hadn't thought about it. I'll have to see what I like more. If I could find a 12x15 rack Tom, then I'd definitely use the 18 all the time.

You're a funny guy, Henri!

Yeah, musically the 14s were better for the gig I just did this past weekend. So I think I struck a compromise and bought a pair of 15" New Beats the other day that I'll start using. With the thin top and medium thin bottom of the New Beats, they'll probably slosh pretty good while being small enough for me to control for fast jazz stuff. Funny that I think 15" New Beats will be small enough ;)

Unless I want to force the music to like my 17" hats. Not sure yet. But playing fast jazz with songs like "Too Darn Hot" or "Ya' Gotta Try" the 17s definitely play sluggish, or I may not be used to moving that much mass that quickly. I'll woodshed a bit and see what happens.

I would prefer the 17s all the time, but the music just called for something else.

Nice Bo. A setup for the ages. Unbeatable.

p.s. I like your new lady friend. Dark, yes! Blonde = bland...

Mad About Drums - Bless you for your mirroring service! I always get a headache looking at lefty's kits, no matter how beautiful :).
Extremely professional look to the kit, Bo! Well done!

Thanks all! Imagine the kit as the 4-piece at the bottom, but now less the two crash cymbals and just keeping the 24 ride and using my 17" phat hats. That's what I went to today and it felt much better to me psychologically ;)

Fantastic kit! My favorite set up.

Re: Some Ludwig porn

Thanks. It looks a little different now because my front reso head has a much smaller logo on it (it was too big for my tastes the other way), and when the kit goes out for a gig, I'm using Yamaha 600 and 700 hardware now. When it's at home it gets paired up with my my heavier Pearl 900 series stuff which is always set-up.

The kit now dons fresh black dot heads on the toms and the bass drum with a lone felt strip. Sometimes I take the 18" floor tom out, sometimes I don't. It depends on how much room I get on stage or how lazy I'm feeling. It really is a Sonor Safari kit on steroids ;)

I should probably post new pics with the black dots. Those are a rare sight on this forum, I know.

Very nice Bo ! Too bad you didn't have some Paiste Giant Beats or 2002s to finish the whole Bonzo tribute thing.

I keep thinking about it. I've always wanted to play a set of 2002s, but I've always had these Zildjians, and even when I tried a Sabian or two in the past, they never stayed around very long.
