Triggering a Traps A400/Pearl Rhythm Traveler with mesh heads into a Roland TD-3 brain with separately bought cymbal pads?

If it works: 2 kits for the price of one.
If it fails: an expensive headache.

EDIT: I've heard too many bad things about the Traps electronic kit to just buy that.

What are you trying to accomplish? IMO you are trying to combine 2 different products that dont need to be merged. The pearl e kit is like this. Lame e kit, poor acoustic kit...all for 3k.

If you have the spare parts around and want a building challenge then sure.

E-kits pros = much quieter & easier to switch sound.
Cons = need to spend 4k (new roland td12) to compete 100% technically with a $400 Acoustic kit(low to mid e hihats and dynamics are garbage). Need an amp (or pa access) to gig. finite amount of drum inputs.

Acou kit pros = much cheaper for playability value. Easy to add unlimited new pieces. Louder (plus for gigs)
Cons = Louder. Longer set up.

I see no reason to ever get an ekit unless noise is an issue, unless you are rich.

If you want to add some electronics to a kit just get an spd-s pad...cheap enough and great compliment.
