Making my own soft cases

Allright, so i had this idea for something i could do for a project in sewing class, i thought it'd be easy to make soft cases for my drums, just find a sturdy fabric for the outside, put some felt fabric on the inside and stick some foam in between, sew it together and put a zipper on the top opening. those are my thoughts on how to do it, i was wondering if anyone has done this before and how they did it, or if anyone has better idea's or extra things to put on.

Sounds like a good plan if you have the tools. They can be had for 25.00USD or so. Make sure your materials cost way below that to make it worthwhile.

I think the hardest part is going to be finding zippers long enough and not breaking the bank on them. Especially as you get into the larger size drums like a 16 and your kick. Don't forget you will need some kind of handle and the area that attaches will have to be heavily reinforced to handle the strain of lifting.
