stupid sticks - need help!

im typing one handed as a temporarily wrist-sprained drummer... :(

ive been have quite a bit of trouble with the heads on my drumsticks that i use in my right hand.

ok so theres whats happening, its only on my right hand sticks, i have no idea how its happening... anyone seen this before or have an idea of how to stop it? i logically figured its directly related to cymbals in some way.
 
I'd guess you're sometimes catching the edge of your crash (maybe hats as well) right on the tip. A cowbell without a plastic gaurd will also chip a head in just a couple of bad hits (tip on the edge).
 
I always chip my tip on my ride bell. It pisses me off because sometimes the stick will be like brand new and it becomes useless.

You posted a question and answered it in your opening post. Yes, its your cymbals you are hitting everything with your right hand, start integrating your left for hats and crashes.
 
That used to happen a lot to my sticks but over the past year I've worked a lot on my technique with my teacher and as a result my sticks are lasting 5 times as long as they used to.

Consider the amount of force imparted on that little tip. It should come as no surprise that it easily chips. One thing you can do is out clear nail polish on the tips. But seriously, the arrow is never the problem. It's always the Indian.
 
veggo32 - i integrate my left hand more than any other drummers i know personally.
Abazuto - I dont hit the crashes/splash/china with the tips, unless i need an occasional "ping" but more washy than the ride. For the first pair i chipped (VF2b), it might of been from catching on the edge, because the chip comes directly from the shaft of the stick. I used to play cymbals with the tips, but only for the first and second pair of sticks (VF2b and VF5an) since then i learned a lot.
Monica McCoy - I dont play hard by any means if thats what you mean by Indian lol. I know theres still tons of force on that tip, what where you told do in terms of "technique" to make them last longer?
razorx - I dont hit the ride bell with the tip cause my B8Pro ride bell is really quiet and so i have to hit it with the shaft of the stick.

So its just from playing on the hats/ride like normal? I should note, I play the hats with the tips. Lots of the drummers i know play them with the shaft of their sticks, but i like the sound from the tips. I gotta find colored nail-polish :)
 
i ran into this exact problem myself, for me i would like to play the hell out of my heavy B8 'crash/ride' and was cracking the tips after only hours of playing a stick, i asked for some advice myself and was told NYLON TIPS - it worked! i was skeptical at first but i still wail on my ride and have been playing the same set of sticks for several weeks now and they are a 100%...
