"Wake 'n Break" Series

Hey DW, it's been a while. I've decided to start the "Wake 'n Break" series, where I will sit down at my drums every morning and try to come up with a random drum break. I figure it will be a fun way to force me to try and come up with new ideas, as well as make sure I get my ass back behind my drums on a daily basis. Today was day one.

NOTE:"Wake 'N Break Volume One: 30 Drum Grooves To Start Your Day", is now available for purchase at both Amazon and Smashwords! It covers the first thirty grooves in the Wake 'N Break video series and includes notation, in depth explanations, and live links to the corresponding youtube videos. I can't tell you how stoked I am about this series and I hope the enthusiasm carries over to the readers!

Hopefully, some of you will enjoy and in the words of Kurtis Blow, "THESE ARE THE BREAKS!"

Wonderful stuff. Thanx for sharing.

Your right hand looks different (positioning wise) than mine. It may just be the camera angle.

Peace and love.

Thanks KamaK! I noticed that in the first video as well. I think it was due to a mix of the camera angle and me trying to play the hi-hats with a slightly lighter touch for that particular groove.

What a great day starter.
Will check out vids later, great motivator!
I hope you dig them! My goal is to do one as often as possible. :)

Here's today's wake 'n break session. I had some fun with a dirty swung 16th note groove. As always, feel free to enjoy with a nice cup of coughee. ;)

Hey folks! Here's my wake 'n break from earlier this morning. This one had me fumbling around for a bit, but the idea finally came together. Hope you dig it!

Today's Wake 'n Break saw me fumbling through a four on the floor/steppers-esque groove where I try to emulate a delay effect with my cross stick. I'm definitely looking forward to developing and perfecting this one more.

No days off! Here's my wake 'n break session from this morning. It's a fun backbeat with a somewhat hypnotic tom part. Hope your morning was a good one!

I whipped this 12/8 groove up for this morning's wake 'n break session. Even though it's in 12/8, it isn't a shuffle or blues feel. The emphasis is more on the upbeats. As always, I hope some of you dig it and have fun with it!

I decided to break out my pandeiro for today's wake n break session. My drum room is freezing in the morning, so the head is a bit tighter than I would prefer, but I had a blast coming up with this one! :)
