Honkey Tonk Women, The Stones. If that has not filled the dance floor by the end of the first bar its a nursing home disco.

Level 42’s Out of Sight Out of Mind with Phil Gould on drums.

Or pretty much anything from Level 42’s first 3 albums. Brit funk at its finest.

J, something tells me you'll like this;

This is Linley Marthe, a French Mauritian who was the Z Syndicate's last bassist, someone Joe called the best bass player he's played with (!!!!!!!!!). To qoute Joe, "Linley has got chops that are upsetting everyone".

Nice groovy drummer. Chander Sardjoe and Nguyen Le on guitar with some Scotty like playing : )

enjoy.

This is your friend's friend's band Triphasic.. David Gomez on drums.. nice prog funk;

Aydee, did you ever see Linley with Zawinul? I saw them not long before Zawinul died. Oh man what a band - they grooved like an unstoppable train.

No, unfortunely not, Davo, but there's this one utube clip with him and Paco Sery ( what a monster .. ) with Zawinul Syndicate. Yessir, that band was a groove machine, and yes, what a band! : )

IMO one of the grooviest grooves is a tune from The Meters called Fire On The Bayou. Played of course by drummer Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste, this groove is a fantastic example of a raunchy, swampy New Orleans funk groove with a '3' clave on the kick. Check it out.

I've never been able to get this exactly like the way the guy's playing it, but this groove is pure gold, it works like nothing else ever could. If I knew this beat note for note I's spend an hour playing it every day, I swear.

You should spend an hour everyday figuring it out and then write it out for your fellow drummers to play : )

Thank you foursticks for this. I had never heard this tune but it quickly became one of my favorites.

I'll throw a few others out there:
"Just Kidding" (Michel Camilo)
"Speak E.Z." (Lettuce)
Anything by Stanton Moore (love his work with Roger Walter on organ).
