Rich Redmond Clinic.

...Inspiration.

That one word sums up the Rich Redmond clinic at the South Edmonton Long&McQuade that my brother and I attended last night. I almost did not go, as to be honest with you, I did not know who this guy was. I sure know who he is now though. This was the seventh clinic that I have been to, and like the Tod Sucherman clinic, I walked out of it feeling inspired rather than awed. Sure there was a great deal of WoW, but the message was the key, and the playing was used to support and accentuate it.

If any of you get a chance to attend one of his clinics, I urge you to do so.

Glad you enjoyed the clinic Barry. I've not heard of him either, but that's usually an indication they're a great player and I'm out of touch.

Superb picture with you. You look like a happy happy Baz. Cool stuff!

I have to agree, Rich is a very inspirational guy.I attended a clinic he did in Terre Haute, IN. I asked him a bunch of questions and he gave me some free stuff (drum key, practice pedal, extra beater). He was a great guy to talk to and a really good player. I think he was on a MD cover not too long ago.
Also, coincidentally I ran in to Dave Dicenso's brother at the clinic. I forget his name but he said he plays drums also but is not as good as his brother. He looked a bit older than Dave.

...He signed a boomerang that started as a 5-B for me, which now has a home in the Man Room.

I might have understated the W0W factor. At the start of the show, he played to show us that he could play, then he played what makes him his living. These "money beats" he played are the beats that I play on 99% of what I play for fun.

He also spoke about commitment, to the song, the music, the process, gave and played examples from himself and other drummers, which got me thinking about my ho hum as of late playing.

I mean come on, how can you not get jazzed watching a guy like this.

...they mentioned that in the intro, but he down played it.

Although if that would have been me my shirt would be popping buttons.left and right.

I saw some YouTubes of his clinics a while ago and I really enjoyed his power and groove - fab rock drummer.

...Even though it has been almost a month since this clinic, people that I run into, and talk with who were there are still buzzed about it.

The man left a very favorable impression indeed.

You might open the 2010 July issue of Modern Drummer; he was all over it winning a few readers' poll catergories! He plays for Jason Aldean and he's a great all-around guy who knows that it isn't solely about him!

Best Regards,

Mike

...I am trying to turn some of the things that I took from his clinic into habits.

Playing is fun again, and it is infectious. Our Monday jams are a lot more laid back, and the positives are building on the positives. If that is the true purpose of a clinic then I can see why he is so highly regarded.
