I've been playing the intro to Rock and Roll wrong for years

I'm probably late to the party, but it turns out the drum intro on the Zep classic comes in on the 'and' of 3 - not on the one.

I just learned this thanks to a couple of useful YouTube videos doing the rounds.

I'm sure many others have 'fudged' it in the same way I've been doing.

Listen to Chuck Berry's guitar intro to Johnny B Goode, and John Bonham is basically replicating that on the drums. Very simple.

You live and learn.

Actually John Bonham copied the beat from Little Richard's - Keep a Knockin for his Rock and Roll Intro and you are correct it starts on the and of 3.

I had counted that out long ago, and the few times I've played it, I count it in so that the band also knows where one is.

Indeed, the Chuck Berry intro is a perfect analogy!
