Is sheet music important during music play?

Depends what you're playing, what the situation is, and what instrument you play.

In most modern hobbyist or weekend bands, playing drums by ear or with loose charts/notes is just fine. However, in many working situations, such as studio sessions or theater work, you need to be able to know not just how to read, but sightread (in other words, pick up a piece of sheet music and play it as you read it for the first time).

A quick internet search found me Noteflight (http://www.noteflight.com/login), which is an online musicwriting application.

For a basic explanation of music notation, look no further than Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_notation

I have already used the software and am very pleased with it! Had a lot of fun during the point to point play without any distortion or noise! Thanks a lot for this alternative!
