Do you know Hermeto Pascoal?

Not well enough-- I need to dig into his thing more. The pianist on my record, Weber Iago, is a former student of his, and I'll be playing on the same event as one of his former sidemen, Jovino Santos Neto in Seattle this weekend. Check out this incredible piece of music.

Hermeto Pascoal is just great.

The first time I heard of him was during the 70s, when his record Slaves Mass came out. Here's the first tune from that record, in 7/8, with Chester Thompson on drums and Alfonso Johnson on bass.

Also I attended his Montreux concert, in 1978 probably. Then one night in the mid-80s, I saw him jam in a club in Paris, and he was amazing.
