Cajon instead of bass drum?

Is this possible?

Main question is could it be loud enough to compete w a small kit? Maybe just a snare and hats. I have seen them on utube but never with a kit.

Thinking of making one and would love some insight into construction of one to be used as a bass drum. Wood thickness, dimensions etc. No need for snare set up since it would just be a kick. Crazy right?

Anything is possible. A Cajon is just a box with a hole in it... But the idea is that it's a hand drum, so there's no easy way to rig up a kick pedal to it. As well, to compete with a drum kit, I think you'd need a pretty big size Cajon. I dunno. Seems like the end result might not be worth the trouble. If you got the time and will, though, I'd love to see what you come up with!

I really was hoping to get some insight into what size to make one (because I am going to) to get it deep and loud. I know someone here has made one and has something to offer. Should have named the thread homemade cajon or something.

Didn't have the canines I guess (bad joke)
