Hi all!
I have decided after years wanting- to begin a build, The kit will be a 6 piece Birch set, here are the specs!

10" x 6.5"
12" x 7.5"
13" x 10"
14" x 12"

Bass Drum
20" x 18"

Snare Drum (7.5mm with r/rings)
14" x 6.5"

Triple flange hoops, guager mounts, evans Ec1 and 2s.
The finish will be a sunburst effect and high gloss.

Sorry I have to resize the pics of the naked shells to post-its huge!

Sounds like fun. What brand of shells? What kind of hardware? I use genuine Gauger mounts and there is nothing better.

How are you going to do the paint job? A sunburst sounds like a difficult finish to pull off.

Hi!
The shells are being made by a guy in the UK, Alan Tocknell...He has been makin drum shells for a while now and the shells will all be VERTICAL grain Birch!
The finish on the drums will done will Analine dyes after I stain the drums with a near black- and sand it down to highlight the vertical grain first--Analine dyes are used often in guitar making and the sunburst effect like the Les Paul style is not that hard to pull off.
I have some off cuts of vertical grain birch and already have spent hours testing this method.
I have it down now and am shure it will look really great- the look I am going for is the one done by DW in the X shell kits- that type of fade, dark at the bottom to blonde on top.
The lugs etc are to be sourced from Liberty drums- as they sent me some really great quality samples on request, I will have single lugs for toms and bass drum and double for snare in chrome and recessed bass drum claws to match. The toms will not mount on the bass drum as I like the look of a clean bass and I gather it sounds better too that way.

As soon as I can resize the pics of naked shells I have I will post them as drum porn for you all to drool at as I have been!

I am so excited at the thought of doing this and have dedicated my spare room as a workshop- against the wifes wishes!
A man has gotta do what a mans gotta do!

Here they are- these are pics of the 10 inch tom, showing the vertical grain inside and out- also the great patterning visible- these will look great with a grain highlight stain and sunburst effect.. Enjoy!
