Hi All,
Not sure if this is in the correct section, sorry if its not...
I play drums in a band that typically play 2 - 2 1/2 hour sets and the next morning after a gig I always have a really really bad headache.
I don't drink alchohol or use drugs and I try to always drink plenty of fluids.
I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this or could offer any advice?
I think it might be dehydration but have tried drinking as much water as I can and using sports rehydration liquids but still get the annoying headaches in the morning.
It's really becoming annoying, please help...
Do you wear hearing protection?

I work in healthcare.....I can give you some medical advice but PM me. Asking for health advice over a public forum can have legal ramifications for drummerworld forum if things go wrong for you

Do you grit your teeth when you play?

Interesting... would love to hear the outcome of this. I've never experienced headaches but the day after a 3 hour gig I'm pretty worn out in general ;)

Maybe your hearing protection is too tight on your head/ big in your ears. I have ear buds that are a bit too big and it gives me a headache sometimes. You could try another hearing protector and see if you feel the same after your gig. Just a thought.

Sounds like tension somewhere in your face/jaw or neck/upper back.
How's your posture?

Thanks so much everyone for the replies - a lot of interesting suggestions that maybe in my frustration hadn't occurred to me. I think i'll chat with my doctor first and see what he suggests.
I'll keep you all posted as some of you seem interested in this.

Yeah after a long gig I sometimes feel like I have flu crossed with a hangover the next day, not nice!
I know seeing a doctor is always the "right answer" in these cases, but in my limited experience the doctor may just stare blankly at you when you bring up drumming. You may want to see a drum teacher instead, if you're not already taking lessons.
You probably should still see a doctor to be sure nothing is seriously/permanently wrong...
